"Via" somewhere using the Rail Staff Travel site

I am travelling Grantham to Glasgow, up on the 26th of this month, back on the 27th.

As it is more than 40 years since I travelled via then Settle & Carlisle, I thought I mighjt travel out that way.

I am not bothered which route that I use for the return, as it will be dark soon after setting off.

The only itinerary offered on the RST is via Edinburgh, although the ticket seems to be an anytime single with no restrictions (that I can see).

Can I use this ticket for Grantham > Leeds > Carlisle > Glasgow?

Yes, but note that you the £21.30 ticket isn’t valid before 09:30. If you want to leave earlier than that you’ll need the £27.50 Anytime ticket.

Including a via point finds itineraries on the S&C for me. You need to click “more options” under the departure and destination stations to bring up the “via” box.

The Settle & Carlisle is unsurprisingly the shortest route for this journey, so it's definitely valid!

Out of curiosity I had a look at the cost of a Priv Grantham to Carlisle single- £2.65 more than a Grantham to Glasgow Central Priv single. Although if travelling after 09:30 you could save a few pounds by splitting at Leeds. No doubt other split ticketing opportunities are available.
