91011 in Euston.

Many years ago I was told that brand new 91011 had worked into Euston. On it's delivery light engine run from Crewe to Bounds Green, it was commandeered in the Bletchley area and dragged the errant loco and train to it's destination at Euston. I don't have a date, but didn't know whether anybody could shed more light on this and whether there are any photos out there?

I have it noted as being on 2nd March 1990 and it rescued 90003 on 1A19 0826 Liverpool-Euston from Bletchley.

I had it on it's second working. The first Mk4 set had started service on Leeds services and I had travelled up from Leeds on it with 91001. I went off for fodder before heading back north on 1d45 to Leeds at 1750. I almost didn't notice the gleaming paintwork and mouse adornment but was delighted to score a winner. They'd done a very quick loco swap in my short absence.

Au contraire... they all worked into Glasgow from Carstairs and many would have been dragged Newcastle to Carlisle and then done "pan up" to head north.

Not revenue earning, but a 91+MkIV set was borrowed off InterCity East coast to do a press run from New St to London in 1993 to promote Inter City West Coast’s bid for new trains under the then Government’s first foray into train leasing. This was promoted as a trial for future privatisation, but actually a bit of pork barrelling to allow NSE to order some Networkers so that York woks would be kept open with £150m worth of train orders (intended to be around 30 x 365 units). IC West Coast saw an opportunity and put in a rival proposal for 13 x IC225s. Government was not impressed, and despite it having (allegedly) a better business case, the 365s won out.

Yes same time. Same team in Inter City who arranged it too!

Two coaches (out of a pool of six) attached to the Aberdeen sleeper (as noted above) in each direction from when BR withdrew seated accommodation on the Scottish sleepers at the May 1992 timetable change. Only carried the Stagecoach stripes livery for six months until November 1992, but the ticket booking arrangement through Stagecoach continued until October 1993.

I'm pretty sure it did at least one run to Manchester Piccadilly as well?

I'm pretty sure it did at least one run to Manchester Piccadilly as well?

Yes, there were also Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool promotional runs on consecutive days as part of the same demonstration in late June 1993, following on from a (at the time) record run of a shortened IC225 set (91029 and 82213) from Manchester to Euston on 30th April 1992.
