I'm looking on Trainsplit for a journey from Charing Cross to Chatham, changing at Paddock Wood and Strood, because I'm awkward. Trainsplit has very kindly found me the correct itinerary straight away (unlike some other journey planners!) and given me two advance tickets (screenshot below). However, the second one (PDW-CTM) says that it is "valid only for travel via (changing trains or passing through) Shortlands", even though the route doesn't go anywhere near Shortlands.
Inputting the code SA into the National Rail restriction code thingy says that the ticket is "only valid on booked train and connecting services only", but then it goes on to say that the "restriction applies Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays)", which is interesting, because the ticket in question is for a bank holiday. However, the "notes" on code SA state that "in addition, travel must be made on the service(s) on which the passenger is booked." It all seems like a bit of a mess to me - can someone figure out what's going on and what Shortlands has to do with it?
