For context, see the news this week that Whitlocks in Leeds was banned for celebrating the relaunch of Double Diamond with a 25p per pint offer. Whitlocks had to give the first pint away for free instead. Double Diamond

A pub which was told selling a pint of beer for 25p during a promotion was "irresponsible" and a breach of its licence has instead begun giving them away.

Leeds city centre pub Whitelocks offered customers their first pint of revived 1970s pale ale brand Double Diamond at the retro price as part of the four-day scheme, which began on Thursday.

The winners of the first Global Pasty Championships have been crowned - and they may come as a surprise.

The contest saw nearly 100 bakers and pasty companies bring their lovingly crafted pasties to The Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell.

Splendid scoop @Topological 8-) I'll quote some of the BBC's article:
"The first Global Pasty Championships contest saw nearly 100 bakers and pasty companies... Vanessa Farr from Bristol took home the title in the Cornish pasty individual category... Fellow winners from the city included Max Baker, who won the alternative pasty individual category, with chicken in barbecue sauce pasty..."

Great to see a pair of Bristols behind those fine pasties.

Finished the job - What if the upgraded and relaid (but yet to reopen) Bicester - Bletchley route had 25kV AC throughout, prior to its services commencing?
These two source images are my own, taken on 22-Oct-2024. And, yes, 800 005 did run. :)

This also raises the question of the Great Central more generally. The overhead wiring team need to come back to the other platform. I am googling industrial relations ;)

Good Grid-dance - what if the class 56 fleet had achieved the reliability-level demanded by British Rail's customers; and the 59s had not been ordered?

The whole theme is, but who am I to argue.

The only thing I cannot work out for this what if scenario is whether the Pendolino evolved as a public transport solution, or whether the technology is developed for upper middle class types who want the sportiness of tilt, and the size ten times bigger than necessary.

Sorted - what if Royal Mail's Travelling Post Office contract continued and TPO on-train sorting services didn't end in January 2004.
Perhaps DRS took on the contract, instead of EWS. Perhaps the 1976-converted Mk1 NSXs soldiered on for a few years more; rather than new-builds or converting redundant Mk3s.
Here, a class 88 runs wrong-line during over-running WCML possession.

This year we've seen great creative images from Topological / Ashley Hill / Iskra / nlogax / CaptainHaddock / High Dyke / RichJF / HamBuoy / ScoobyRay / Geswedey.
It's fun, it's (for most contributors) free and it's very addictive!
Hopefully this month and onwards will see new contributors, too. 8-)

I am having this one.

What if TfW actually got themselves a proper new depot for their fleets instead of trying to get everything to fit into Chester. This alternative reality allows them to explore multiple classes instead of just restricting to the 197.

Also, Rishi Sunak did say electrify the North Wales coast so it follows that there are wires.
