I thought they were being backed by Alstom, who are/were holding the 6x (?) remaining ex Avanti 221s...
To improve the chances of the application being approved, wouldn't they try to keep the tilt enabled on the Class 221s? If a Wrexham service is followed by a Class 390 departing only three minutes later, the 390 would surely catch up by the time they reach Rugby if the 221 has its tilt isolated. Furthermore, didn't the 221s have different EPS (Enhanced Permissible Speed) limits compared to the 390s?

Thanks so is this a one gimic, or are they really going to run loco hauled MK3s
I thought Slam door MK3's were no longer allowed in regular passenger service due to PRM legislation ?

Even if they had access rights I doubt they would be able to use the afformentioned slam door set , Ex Chiltern sets maybe though.

It’s a PR event, using a charter set to take people to London where a petition was rumoured to be handed into No 10. All done by using GBRF.

They are not going to use LHCS for their own services - it’s 221 units or nothing.

I still think they are wasting their time trying to get an Open Access railway going with this government... I bet they despise the current ones like Lumo and Grand Central!
You'd think the Government would be itching to get a route like this going under GBR, then they could make loads of PR noises about how great they are by bringing in new routes and services for loads of people ect.

They also understand the trade offs of doing it though. If you start making the WCML reliability worse than it already is, it has impacts.

The Government are quite clear about the economics of this route.

Funnily enough, I think, that given a blank slate, this Governement would far prefer routes like WSM's that link new destinations to duplicate services like Lumo's. We are where we are though.

I think its just invitation only. Also makes a disclaimer to note that the speed is significantly slower than what they propose.

Seems like money isn't an issue for the Alstom folk, so do they want this 4 trains per day (potentually 3) WSMR thing to make money? Or just for their portfolio?

Did they get the BLS to handle bookings? That ticket format is basically identical to what you get off the BLS!

When they can demonstrate there's capacity for their services without further destroying the WCML's timekeeping. This may take some doing.

You may also be less keen for a Voyager, which is (I think) what they plan to actually use :)

I dunno, I think they're @DarloRich's favourite train! Or at least he has some sort of strong opinion about them and I think it's that ;)
Oh. That's not fair! Is it an xc voyager or a virgin voyager? ;)
