OK... although this station is aligned north - south, as evidenced from the screenshot... the route it is on is more of an east - west alignment.

That overall roof with a wide concourse on a two track line... it's got to be Whitley Bay?

Yes, of course it is Whitley Bay, which replaced the original smaller 1882 Whitley Station in 1911.

The sharp curve at the left hand end of the station would seem to indicate a former junction with a long-closed branch which was originally the main line....but I'm totally stumped!

I just looked on "rail map online" and yes, there was an industrial connection there a long time ago.
