Too many railfans dislike the 465/466 classes. I think they were great, though they were in service for too long. I had my best UK rail experience on 466011. I disagree that they've been in service too long. The issue is that they haven't had the major refurbishment work which the earlier 455s had, and instead have just had the bare minimum work necessary to keep them legal. The SWT 455s in particular showed what can be done with older stock.

On a 465 today which had all this metal casework where 2 seats would usually be, just behind the cab - any ideas what it’s for? Have never seen before.

RailCam says it's a single 466, but doesn't yet know the number. If I had to guess it's 466041 as that was recently withdrawn.

i didn't think the /0 subclass would be withdrawn. Just the /9s and 466s. Was that a one off or will others go?

A selection of them are going to Dollands Moor for short-term storage (I think about 10 max). What's happening to them after this "short-term" period is still unknown, though if they went for scrap I doubt it would be a short-term stay, given the lack of scrapyard capacity at the moment.

There is currently a difference between the Beacon (was Eversholt) 465/0's & 465/1's and the Angel Trains 465/9 & 466's. The 465/9 & 466's that are on lease to the latter part of 2027 have had C4 (mainly underframe) & C6 (mainly interior/doors) overhauls.

I can see that lease needing to be extended, or else there being a major fleet shortfall, as the new fleet will still be a long way off and there are no obvious candidates for cascading to Southeastern in the short-term.

It's only going to be the three already there - 465045, 465169 and 465175. Short term but not to do with scrapyard capacity in any way, just to be clear. It's to free up depot capacity whilst awaiting long lead time materials.

Does anyone know if 465021 is still at Grove Park? As 465045 has moved to Dollands Moor, I expect 021 will join it as it's long term out of service too.

Thinking more about the aspiration for batteries on the new fleet order proposed, if this is approved, delivered and proves very successful, I can see the 376s being withdrawn/cascaded elsewhere once all Networkers are gone (replaced by an add-on to the existing order), plus 707s having batteries retrofitted. The appeal of removing third rail from depots and sidings, coupled with the power supply failure resilience, will mean if the new fleet excels in these ways, why complicate operations by having some units stuck in a power supply failure area impeding the battery-powered units, and also having complex logistics around stabling when some of your fleet can't be stabled on certain roads/sidings, given they'd have no power supply?

Of course even without this 375/377/395s will still be impacted (especially on the busy flows into London terminals), however this won't be as bad given different maintenance depots are involved.

A member on trainlogger has said that 465188 is being stripped ready for disposal. Anyone have anything to back up/refute this claim? 188 is another 465 that has been sitting in SLADEGD since 2024.

Given that many MetCam units have been stripped and scrapped so far, for BREL/ABB units to have gone this long without issues would be a miracle.

Does anyone know if 466001 and 466043 have left Ely for scrap? If they have, they must have gone by road as I can't recall seeing a rail drag taking them away. If they are gone it means Ely is Networker-free.
