I didnt think so i thought they worked well, i used them somewhat and they were a useful link

On another note, 366 and 367 at Central again
The 46/48 on a 15 minute headway were incredibly unreliable and often ran in pairs. Atleast by having just the 48 every 20 minutes it’ll eradicate the bunching issue which was mainly caused by traffic delays on the 46 between Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg.

Does any remember the 82A and what route it took?
Rosewell to Muirhouse via Polton Mill, Bonnyrigg, Eskbank, Dalkeith, Danderhall, Cameron Toll, Dalkeith Road, Surgeons' Hall, Bridges, St Andrew Square, George Street, Stockbridge, Comely Bank, Crewe Toll and Pilton. Ran from 1988-1992 in the evenings and on Sundays, every 60 minutes. For its last year of operation the Stockbridge section was withdrawn, running instead via West End and Orchard Brae, with journeys towards Rosewell serving Princes Street.

There was no Sunday evening service from what I can remember, last bus from Edinburgh on Sundays was at 1800 and from Rosewell at 1900.

That's from the early days of the 82A, when it ran to Muirhouse via Ferry Road and Pennywell Road. It was initially a Sunday-only service with the service on weekdays and Saturdays, including evenings, provided by service 82 which ran between Rosewell and Charlotte Square. Service revisions in November 1988 saw the 82 extended to East Craigs and it was then that the evening journeys became service 82A.

The bus stop in the background of the photo is a pre-deregulation one, the portcullis bus stop flag introduced by ECT in the 1950s. These were phased out following deregulation and replaced by the style seen nearest the camera; it took a few years before the replacement programme was completed. If I remember correctly the stops served by multiple operators were replaced first, followed by those served only by LRT. That said, I do recall four portcullis stops going up in Craighall Road in January 1987 for the then Sunday-only diversion of service 14.

Have you any information on the 30 serving that area?

Started off along with service 29 at deregulation, both services replacing the northern end of the 17/47 which was withdrawn completely. It became stand-alone in July 1987 when the 28/29 started and was withdrawn in June 1990 when the 81/81A was extended to Muirhouse.

It’s great to see the old style flag again. In fact a great pic overall. Thanks!

The one in the pic is the light yellow fare stage variant. Originally, fare stage bus stop flags were orange. Normal stops were red.

Other variants were green (Eastern Scottish), dark yellow (limited stop), blue (Airport service), white with red lettering (theatres, cinemas etc) and black with white lettering (city centre attractions). There was also latterly a half-and-half flag with the colours split diagonally, red/blue and yellow/blue, for stops served by both LRT and Eastern Scottish. I remember seeing a red/blue straggler in Musselburgh in January 1989.

Such detail! Would you know why there was a light orange variant and they didn’t just stick with orange?

Earlier flags were made from aluminium, later ones were fibreglass and this gave the fare stage flag a light yellow appearance. :)

I remember these bus stop flags when I was growing up - my developing interest in buses coincided with deregulation and the change from the Edinburgh bus stop flags to the UK standard design, with coloured bands for each operator using the stop.

It was a Council decision to change the stops over, if I recall correctly; the portcullis stop flags had been made in-house at Shrubhill firstly by Edinburgh Corporation and then by LRT, but with LRT going from being a council department to a standalone operator at deregulation, the Council took over full responsibility for bus stops within Edinburgh.

Are Lothian getting some new Scania Higer Touring coaches?
New coaches are due, though I’m not sure what. I suspect plan will be for Newbridge to get these and then the current Plaxton’s move to Dunbar for further Eve fleet replacement, joining many that moved previously.

That’s coaches of course, but the first of this year‘s new buses are relatively imminent I believe
Will this be the electric single decks? Do we know where these are for yet? Only Central and Marine have chargers as far as I know.

9 electric single decks for Central, which will be used on the 36. There's more diesel buses coming this year however.
Ah yes apologies I forgot we already knew they were for the 36.
As in more single decks? I know East Coast is short of singles so I wonder if any will be for there.

Was looking for some help regarding the blue seats/interior:
Were 496-510 the only new buses delivered in this style? (I had thought 571-590 were too).
We're any buses refurbished to this style?
Is 496 the only bus still in this style or are there others?
