Moderator note: This thread was updated in February 2026 to include Customer Experience Ambassador recruitment at all locations.

Hi everyone, hope you can help.

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who may be interested.

So, Lumo are advertising for "Customer Experience Ambassadors" based at Stirling which, judging from reading the advert, looks to be their equivalent of an onboard Train Manager.

Would this basically mean the traincrew would be based at Stirling station or is there a separate depot like a yard or such somewhere in the area there?

Thankyou.

The advert tells you?

You will need to live within 60 minutes travel time to the depot, which is located at Stirling, without using public transport when it is not available.

Traincrew signing on points and facilities are typically called depots even if it's on a station without a stabling yard. You will be based in wherever Lumo finds office space either on Stirling station itself or nearby.

You missed my last paragraph core to my enquiry.

I have seen the above role advertised for preston:

Does anyone know the actual salary as it is not listed?

And is the role safety critical? It has no wording to suggest it is other than no defective colour vision which would suggest it is?

The dropdown on the FirstGroup page says 30-40K.

I would suggest it is, because as you say the mention of defective colour vision.

As an aside Croydon > Preston is a bit of a commute! Unless your location in your account is no longer up to date.

Does anyone have details of the assessments which Lumo conducts? (I'm guessing RAAT/SCAAT etc.)

Also how often would you have to stay overnight away from home?

I’m starting with them shortly. I was informed because there’s depots at end stations it’s not as likely to be lodged but if engineering work for example that could take place
Thanks for that. What assessments did you have to carry out? Are they the usual OPC ones which most other TOCs look for candidates to pass?

I haven’t began the training yet but for the assessment day you done 3 different activities in groups and the fina was you got interviewed by 3 different members of staff. If you passed that you done a follow up video interview not sure how other TOCs done there process
Thank you. Yes most other TOCs insist that you pass set psychometric assessments.

As mentioned, Group sessions and three mini interviews with staff members and if pass go to video interview.

No OPC tests or anything which is suprising though, was one thing emailed and asked about before had mine assessment day in Jan. Experience with the recruiting process for me and another on here was not positive sadly due to confusing emails and automated ones saying wrong things. But all the best for you though!

Thank you. I've not decided whether to apply yet. I'm a bit confused about what the job entails. I'm guessing it's very similar to a normal "Guard" job role. Do "Customer Ambassadors" despatch the train or is the operation of the doors purely down to the Driver?

By what can find out and that no tests such as SCAAT, RAAT i imagine completely driver controlled for the services. Was told only 3 members of staff total on board, driver and two 'Customer Ambassadors' so is a mix of a guard role as mentions ticket checking, helping in delays etc then a customer host role like with Avanti, XC, LNER etc.

Good luck, Maybe they have pulled out of the selection process or they needed more staff than they anticipated at first

How long did you wait from assessment day to hearing that you were successful?
It was about 5 days and then I had to do a face to face interview and then that was about 4 days later I found out I was offered the job

Thanks for that, recently attended an assessment day and waiting for an outcome. Did they confirm where your training will initially be done? We got told Preston for a few weeks

Just curiously has anyone heard anything from their Preston application which closed on 21st February? I’m aware it says 14 days for a response but after seeing a course start date for the 16th I’m just wondering whether this role for Preston would be put on this course or will there be another one? Thankyou in advance for any responses.

Oh really,I applied for the Preston position so the position was still up on the website then so 14 days would be the end of this week, don’t give up hope! Has the status on your application changed from ‘submitted’ to ‘in progress’?
