OK - so that may narrow it down from the supplemental information to either a station near the two major universities - and a guide could have a double meaning as a dictionary.

So I'll go with Oxford?

If not - I'll step back and let others have a crack at it.

Ten out of ten for your valiant attempts. Nothing to do with a university. This location is not so far from you, the answer lies within the question !

Ok - that’s useful - so I’ll be looking at “Welsh Teaser I” as the anagram

Wester Hailes? (A station I’ve been to as it happens)

I'm going to revise the clue - as I'm not happy with it.

Woodland portal integral to collective conurbation — platform ahead

OK - Supplemental clue - If I was going there from Shrewsbury - I'd have my Wellington's ready to alight before passing through

Correct. Was going down the line is that it is one of the towns that were combined to form Telford New Town - hence a collective conurbation.

Plus of course it is one of the last stations prior to Telford Central - hence the reference to a portal to it.
