Disruption - Landslip, Fitzwilliam 15/2/26

Lots of disruption at Leeds this morning due to this. The first LNER service is cancelled, XC are diverting, Northern running Leeds-Wakefield Westgate only. Replacement buses are in place, which has been organised very speedily, which must be commended by LNER and Northern.

There is major disruption between Leeds and Doncaster due to a landslip. The Northbound and Southbound railway line between these two stations are currently closed. Train services running to and from these stations will be altered, cancelled, or diverted via York.

Please check your entire journey using journey planner below before you travel. The cause of the disruption is expected until at least 18.00, 15 February and we will keep you updated when more news is available to us.

We advise you to avoid travelling if you can if you're traveling between these two stations. A replacement bus service will be running between Leeds, Doncaster and Wakefield Westgate, and also between Leeds and York with more details below.

Network Rail are onsite and working hard to allow trains to safely run again.

I was returned to Leeds, and got a lift from there.

Although obviously the incidents were regrettable, I must commend the quality and quantity of the onboard communication from the train crew and the speed with which replacement buses were organised.

LNER services towards Leeds today according to their travel updates page will:
- Be diverted and terminated at York
- Go via York and double back to Leeds through Castleford
- Be cancelled throughout

Diversions are currently listed up until the 18:35 off Harrogate, but if it's as bad as the landslip near Darton earlier this week, I don't see the line re-opening today.

I have been caught up in this travelling home from Peterborough. Fortunately there are plenty of replacement buses. The times listed on the disruption page are not the only ones and there are express Doncaster-Wakefield-Leeds buses. It is probably better to get a bus rather than diverting via York or Sheffield.

Except you can't get to South Milford today due to engineering work in connection with Transpennine Route Upgrade.

It's going from bad to worse now. There is now a broken rail between York and Doncaster affecting Southbound services.

I was expecting more material to of shifted than what is pictured, for the line to be closed all day.

Although picture won't show what more is potentially ready to slip.

Agreed, but even a small slip is still probably quite a bit of weight to shift and it’s probably more complicated to remove by having to work under the cantenary and being in a deep cutting with lots of standing water around the fields above.

Oh I fully agree, but I've been at work, when what looked like a smaller slip than that occurred, and within hours line was open.
But like I said, we don't know what else is ready to potentially slip.

Have safety procedures become more rigorous following landslip incidents, notably the Carmont derailment, perhaps necessitating more time being spent to prevent the likelihood of a similar or worse repetition at the location?
