Just so long as you don’t look too closely at the carpets!Agreed - looking at the 360s, hard to believe that construction commenced nearly 25 years ago. Ageless.

Their slow doors, slower than Bombardier’s products, make them feel old to me.Agreed - looking at the 360s, hard to believe that construction commenced nearly 25 years ago. Ageless.
That’s just a general thing with Siemens products. They’ve done this with the newer ICE trains in Germany as wellTheir slow doors, slower than Bombardier’s products, make them feel old to me.
Oh believe me, I’ve breathed fire over that before - a bitter bugbear amongst us EMR usersJust so long as you don’t look too closely at the carpets!
amazing - gives a clear idea of how keen they might be to re-introduce numbered seat reservations....Having returned home on a refurbished 158 earlier i noticed where the seats numbers are now placed. Apparently the Mem advises me that the refurbished 170's are similar.
Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to place it on the seat leg? No other number stickers are in place.

I assume that EMR don’t do seat reservations any more on services that the 158s and 170s work? So those numbers are more of an asset tag to allow fault reporting.Having returned home on a refurbished 158 earlier i noticed where the seats numbers are now placed. Yes, it's been quite a while (2020?) since there were reservations on the Norwich to Liverpool route, and I don't remember EMR ever having reservations on any other route apart from the London services (where reservations are currently suspended during the transition from class 222 to 810 units).I assume that EMR don’t do seat reservations any more on services that the 158s and 170s work? Short for Memsahib. My good lady.Who (or what) is the Mem?
Good question - I was on one not so long ago for the first time in a while and of course they are tatty.Any progress with the 360s?
It's a pity that money is actually being spent (wasted) in the 360s . GTR become a public operator quite shortly . And it's Goodbye (and good riddance) to Transport UK at EMR later in the year . So anytime after that would of been a good time to transfer the Corby / London Suburban service (because thats what it is) to the Thameslink portfolio and run it towards Gatwick Airport. Would bring better and easier Journey opportunities to/from Luton Airport and 1st Class could be reinstated from both Corby & Wellingborough, which Transport UK abolished when they acquired those rundown 360s .Good question - I was on one not so long ago for the first time in a while and of course they are tatty.
Also occurs to me to ask - am i correct to think they only have 1 toilet per 4 car unit? despite high density seating.
Seems a bit low on provision to me. Is that likely to change? I suspect maybe not
Dare I ask using what stock? If Corby was given to Thameslink they'd need something other than 700s to run it. The 360s are overdue for a refurbishment wherever they're used. It's a pity that money is actually being spent (wasted) in the 360s . GTR become a public operator quite shortly . makes me wonder if the 700 fleet built for pre covid use levels is all needed for that now really? - 12 carriage trains running around that may well not need that level of provision....Dare I ask using what stock? I think you are correct in your thinking and I am wondering if its a simple case of "we have procured it, so we had better use it...some how or other". And the fleet could be better deployed .. and better use made of the 2 bay platforms at Blackfriars.makes me wonder if the 700 fleet built for pre covid use levels is all needed for that now really? - 12 carriage trains running around that may well not need that level of provision....
Whether that would free up enough to cover all the 360 fleet is another matter. As you say it would need refurbing for some use.
The real problem is cancellation and non existing electrification programme for the rest of the country and as a result too many of the rest of us having to put up with very short and / or life expired DMUs
360107 has returned to Kettering, presumably refurbished
That video is from 2025, not this year. Can’t make out much from this video but if the title is correct, 360107 was spotted at Harpenden about 10 days ago.
Which 170 and 158 is in for refurb at the moment
Given it’s the first refurbished 360 (also the first one at Northampton’s new facilities), no doubt EMR and Siemens would have also announced it on social media/website press releases. That video is from 2025, not this year.

Apologies, turns out 360107 hasn't yet returned to Kettering but will be tomorrow night360107 has returned to Kettering, presumably refurbished
Mechanical work as opposed to cosmetic stuff. They usually come back with refurbished bogies, underframe equipment etc.I've noticed recently that every other week a higher numbered 170/5 seems to go to Barton-under-Needwood for some reason, but then returns within a week. Does anyone know the reason for these trips, I'm presuming it's got something to do with the refurbs.
