What did it do at Leamington ?? go into P2 ?? as Im sure you can't access the Cov branch from the up side.

Chiltern ran a charter today in connection with the Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium. This was 1I28, 09:03 from Birmingham Moor Street to Wembley Stadium, worked by 67014 with the Chiltern Mainline branded set with 82305 on the rear.
Because this departed prior to the engineering works being finished on the Chiltern line, it ran via the WCML, with a lot of reversals involved.
Apparently, it needed to reverse three times at Leamington Spa to access the line to Coventry, presumably due to signalling constraints as opposed to track layout. It then reversed again at Coventry and worked up the WCML via Northampton to Wembley Central and to Mitre Bridge, where it reversed again. Then to Willesden No. 7 and another reversal to get to Acton Canal Wharf Junction, where it reversed again for the final time. It then traversed the Neasden curve to arrive at Wembley Stadium from the London end, due to arrive at 12:14.
The return trip to Birmingham was scheduled over the Chiltern line as the works were due to have finished by then, a couple of different departure times scheduled depending on whether the match went to extra time or not...
Quite a trip by the sound of it!

I thought it would have to do something odd as the track layout doesn't allow you to go back on yourself from 3. If they had used their brains they could have ran middle road and behind the GPL over the bridge and come back in to 2 that way with one reversal, unless of course the block was taken further back than that...

I heard that they had to kick all the passengers off at Harrow and Wealdstone due to not having permission to take the train over a stretch of goods only track with passengers on board. Dunno how true it is, but that is what the people who worked the train were saying in the mess room earlier

That's raised another question too, why go to Mitre Bridge and back to Willesden 7 and back up to Canal Wharf ? you could have gone through the South West Sidings and reversed at Canal Wharf/Acton Wells that way and removed another reversal. Either engineering blocks were all over the show or someone didn't think this one through at all....

Is the Business zone supplement chargable now or is First Class still declasified until September 12th?
September 5th is mainline launch. Free until then I understand.
However, that's actually not long - they loco sets aren't running over the blovkade fortnight, so thats just the rest of this week snd the 4 days after the bank holiday - so including today, only 8 free days left

Yes you can. Although in this case there might have been some right-hand running on the Leam-Cov because it basically doesn't matter, the section of double being so short.

Note The Planner stated the up line (the line to London). You can't access Cov from Platform 2 as the signalling does not allow it. Thus the train had to reverse three times at Leamington to reach Coventry.

Service cancelled at Harrow and Wealdstone due to a booked engineering work possession affecting the lines between Willesden and Acton.
I was on the 7:07am from Banbury to Marylebone on Monday 8th August.
Got delayed en-route from Princess Risborough as the earlier loco hauled train had problems and was forced to terminate at High Wycombe.
My loco hauled train stopped at HW to pick up the stranded passengers.
I was not impressed as I had to make a connection to Liverpool Street to catch a booked train to Norwich, but luckily caught this in time.
My loco hauled train was using a mixture of Virgin and BR Intercity liveried coaches which I found the seats uncomfortable as they were not refurbished.

Sadly, you didn't choose a very good day for your trip!
On Monday 8th August 2011, the first up loco hauled train of the day, 1H06, 05:43 from Birmingham Moor Street to Banbury passed Princes Risborough on time at 07:06 with 67014 leading the newly re-branded set of five silver coaches. 1H08, the 06:53 from Banbury to Moor Street arrived for its stop at Princes Risborough at 07:28 and departed on time at 07:30. Unusually, this was a five coach silver set with 67015 at its head - this train is normally operated by set AL02, the "Hybrid" set of Virgin and Blue/Grey liveried coaches. Things had swapped around due to a loco failure and various other reasons the previous Friday.
So the train you were on, 1H09, the 06:14 from Moor Street to Marylebone, ran with this set and 67013 leading. This was hard on the heels of 1H08 as per usual, it often passes through Risborough on a yellow signal.
On this occasion it came along the platform at 07:33 with the signal still red and stopped in the station - the driver was expecting the signal to change as he approached it, but it didn't.
It seems that 67015 had lost coolant, due to a faulty heat exchanger and the loco shut down at Saunderton. It seems the driver realised he could coast to High Wycombe as it is all downhill from the point of the failure, so this is what he did. This meant that at least the passengers could be detrained and other trains get round the failed train, albeit with delays, but without stranding people in the middle of nowhere. 1H09 then departed from Princes Risborough at 07:43, ten minutes late.
Obviously, it added to your delay that 1H09 stopped at Wycombe to pick up passengers, who probably would have been impressed that efforts were being made to help them out. There must also have been further delays to following trains, but nothing like as much as if the failure had not made it to High Wycombe.
Fitters later attended the failure at High Wycombe, the heat exchanger was repaired temporarily and the loco's coolant topped up using a hose-pipe. This meant that the train could at least be moved out of the way.
The seats in the unrefurbished set AL02 are indeed somewhat past their best, but are at least available, standing-room only on lots of other trains and TOCs! This set is likely to stick around until other sets have had their plug-doors fitted (one set at Wabtec Doncaster at the moment) and will then presumably be taken out of service.
67015 is at present en route to Crewe for more repairs, running DIT behind 67012 and with DVT 82301. This convoy is running as 5Z67, 10:40 from Willesden TMD to Crewe as I write on Monday 15th August 2011. Once 67015 has been dropped off, presumably at Crewe IEMD, 67012 is to take 82301 to Brush Loughborough for it to be fitted with an ETS generator. Route and times not known, unfortunately.

What services are the ex-WSMR rakes running next week? I might get to go and have a ride on September 1st or 2nd. Will the following services still be the loco-hauled ones on these dates?:

Isn't that generally shown by the 'Silver train' symbol in the mainline timetable, described on page 4?

Getting carried away with the imminent new timetable, there's still a week of the old between the works finishing and the new.Hope they don't need those few days to finish the signalling off, like on the Cotswolds...
Unlikely, it seems, from reports on the ground, they're fairly well ahead right now.
BUT, they have said that their late-night amendments with buses after 2220 WILL continue next week, as they're taking the opportunity to do a lot of tamping so there's no delay & line speed amends when the new TT starts.
The Mainline is timed such that a turbo will no longer be able to leep time any longer, so seeing those at Snow Hill going forward will definitely be a rarity.

Just to let you all know, the Mainline branded set has now been disbanded. When we restart after the blockade all of the sets will be in their final formations. These will stay together as a semi permanent set and will go to works like this. I beleive there were plans to apply branding to some of the other ex WSMR stock this week. The decals have been delivered to Wembley LMD. I will try and get hold of the final formation list and post them on the forum.

It is not just the loco sets that are considered "mainline", from what I have seen a lot of 168 schedules will be considered "mainline" and apparently will be shown as such on CIS screens too.
