A pretty if somewhat brash paintjob. Just rather a shame, no-one thought to scope renewal of the tatty coupler electrical head yellow sticker.
Hopefully we'll get some pics of the interior soon.

Does anyone know if any images have been released yet of the new refurbished 220033 as the event should've started at around 11:00 am

They mean different occasions where either cash or card wasn't available, not both, presumably?
Exactly. You found yourself having to take both, just in case you couldn't pay with one. On one occasion, the buffer guy couldn't accept card, so just shut up shop. Very soon, customers bought before they got on, and sales would drop

Small (ocd) bugbear of mine, but it’s a shame with refurbs or events like this little below the solebar is cleaned or tarted up these days. When the FGW Mk3s were repainted and refurbished in 2006/2007, the undercarriage was at least repainted on those. Even just for the press gig!

The livery looks smart, but since the government are ultimately paying for this, how come it's not being painted into the Great British Railways livery?

Because the refurbishment specification was baselined before the GBR livery was thrown together by the intern on their lunch break.

Because XC will A, be the last operation to go into GBR, and B, the official livery has not been decided or signed off yet. Mutterings around Westminster was that nobody liked the GBR interim launch livery and was described as something akin to “GBNews on Rails”.

The refurbishment is also part of a £75M investment in these by Beacon Rail.

On the interior, I have to see it looks awfully clinical. Dark grey cloth and harsh white lighting is perhaps the least characterful combo possible. Perhaps the DfT wanted this so that, when GBR takes over XC, the interior branding won't look out of place.

Standard looks genuinely decent, and I'm glad that you will no longer have to share a single power outlet between a pair of seats. I like the colour scheme and overall presentation in First but the seats themselves look like a massive downgrade.

Not convinced by this. Looks to not have the pattern included in the mock up. A red coach followed by a dark grey coach without that pattern looks wrong in my opinion

Anyone know what unit the refurb one Is? Can't see any numbers at all on the posted pics of the front...not sure if it's intentional.

Hopefully with the more ergonomic design of the seats and the seating arrangement, they have been able to squeeze more seats in. Hopefully more people can find somewhere to sit instead of being crammed in the vestibule or stuck in the accessible toilet.

In the background of the internal first class image, is that another unit being refurbed or are the carriages split in the depot?

Good spot, I wonder if its unfinished? Possibly scheduled the press launch but the job got delayed?

Interestingly the first image in this post appears to show the transition taking place on the lead vehicle.

The legroom looks terrible, and they've even gone and made it worse by shoving the sockets into the space between the seat backs where the knee of a particularly tall person could go.

Guess my boycott of XC continues indefinitely then. At least they are largely avoidable by going via London which is often quicker and cheaper anyway. Only if you want to go to Burton on Trent are you stuck with them, and even then there's (I think) an option of 170 worked services.

It's a classy colour scheme, I'll give them, but it looks like it won't be hugely more comfortable than a 150/2.

Given that it appears to be the same long folding tables as the 810, portlier gentlemen will have trouble pulling the tables down too!

Can’t see anything on this image from Today’s Railways, so perhaps the Avanti esq details have been dropped.

That aisle in standard class looks a tight fit. As a lot of the population are, shall we say, above average size, I can see this becoming an issue especially when full and standing.

The livery in my opinion, looks slightly odd, red, grey, grey, red... I don't think it flows very well.

Do we know if there will be any improvements to the WiFi / cellular connectivity? These are currently as good as zero in my experience and an XC journey has an element of involuntary digital-detox to it which often isn't what I want!

Legroom looks poor (bad choice of seat for that, plus the sockets are in the way of a possible knee position for a tall person) and the tables are the long version used on 810s which I can barely pull down without hitting my gut (which will be worse on these as the pitch is tighter than 810s). And while I'm big I'm not that big.

It looks like the 196 in a way - a nice looking environment but terrible design in terms of the physical product.

It does seem like we're seeing a spate of this sort of "looks nice but not very thought through" design - the 196, the 720, the 777...

The livery in my opinion, looks slightly odd, red, grey, grey, red... I don't think it flows very well.

Yeah I'm not a fan. The cab end Xs being beigey white also make them look like they're covered in brake dust. While having different vehicles different colours makes it look like a scratch set the depot has thrown together because they haven't got a full unit that works.
