The signs around the canal bridge on Maryhill Road actually include both 14'3" and 14'6" signs, however they are all triangular 'warning' signs rather than circular signs, so not actually an offence to go under with something at 14'5". Like you say full height buses up to 14'6" have been using that route for generations without any problems, so no reason to believe why it would suddenly become an issue.

Huh, I wonder what happened for First Glasgow to actually care about it?

It seems like nobody had issues with it for 25-26 years when the B7TL Geminis were brand new (maybe even before that, back with the older Strathclyde buses).

That is the reason why they're not used now though

No bus as far as I know has ever struck that bridge and that includes Leyland Atlanteans, Volvo Ailsas and Volvo Citybuses which are taller than today’s buses.

I know Busby Bridge gets talked about more than the weather at this point, but one of the signs leading up to it from the Clarkston end had been modified to show 4.0m instead of 4.2m, around a year ago now. If Maryhill Road's bridge has the same issue where one of the signs has a false reading, and First are still preventing full height buses from using it, surely the same logic should apply to Busby? Not encouraging it of course, but I suspect the tolerances got tighter after the Cook Street incident two winters ago and Geminis were banned from those routes as a result.

It's always displayed 14"3', They shouldn't have been going under it in the first place due to the Geminis being 14"5', Was the reason the X10s by McGill's never got the 62 plate E400s that they where originally bought for either as they're 14"6'

Need to learn your road signs and what they mean, a triangular sign is a warning meaning it is NOT illegal to pass under it with a higher vehicle(unless you actually hit the bridge). It would only be illegal if the signs are circular.

Explains the single deckers I seen the 60 earlier. Releases double deckers for elsewhere?

Kilbowie road bridge is the same, leyland olympians and E400 went under it alough its marked 13ft 6, think that is the reason they rerouted the strathclyde number 66 to second avenue

I don’t think I’ve seen a double decker go under that bridge normally, and most double decks that have gone under it have gotten stuck.

Last I saw all the E400MMCs were accounted for as going to First West of England. Glasgow isn’t planned to get any.
Apparently most of the decent First Bus fleet in Cornwall is heading for Glasgow. Drivers from First Yorkshire companies are collecting them from Summercourt (Newquay) on Sunday 15th Feb, and then they will be collected from Yorkshire by Glasgow staff.

Both these posts seem offer contrary "facts".

On the subject of vehicles being cascaded from Cornwall reports also suggest not all of the E400MMCs are going to West of England and that the remaining Solos are going to Glasgow.
Only a week to go and we will then find out the true picture.

The old 66 bus route went under kilbowie road bridge
Might be my memory playing tricks but I'm sure that the LO fleet of Olympians based at Larkfield for this route used to have the letter H applied to indicate it was too high for this bridge. Strathclyde had a batch of Olympians built to a "low height" configuration for this route.

I drove the Larkfield LOs for many years, including the low height examples which were the normal allocation on the 66/66A/66B. There was no H applied to the full height examples, or anything else to indicate they couldn’t be used on the 66s. In those days the people working at the depot just seemed to know what could/couldn’t be allocated. Hard to believe in this day and age!!

I don't know why I would think that then. I lived next to Knightswood garage in those days so I saw the buses on a daily basis. Maybe it was their allocation and it might been the VO's they used after the 66 was extended to Knightswood. If you've went to the hassle of getting a batch specially made it would make sense to easily identify them.

Alternatively, perhaps I did imagine it.

The 66 was extended to Knightswood long before the LOs were delivered and when AVs and LAs ruled the roost!

I don’t believe the low height LOs were ordered specifically for any route. I suspect it was more to do with what ECW were able to supply at the time, as they were being built in relatively large quantities for the NBC.

Was there not a batch of Alexander bodied Olympians that were low height? Maybe VO's as opposed to LO's.

Maybe it was later that I saw this, perhaps after the introduction of the Enviro bodied deckers.

Yes, there was a batch of 50 low height Leyland Olympians and these were L registered and a few years later similarly bodied Volvo Olympians both N and P registered were also able to run on the 66 group of routes.

I also remember Kelvin running low height Alexander bodied Dennis Dominators on the D4 and D5 under Kilbowie Road Railway Bridge.

Wonder if it will be the 66 plates or the 18 plates E400MMCs, I've been on a few of them when I've been down that way and they're quite nice inside

Hopefully if any of the above does come up it gets an internal refurb like the solos.
Looking at Flickr photos, ones that are still in local liveries have red Lazerrini seats while Ultraviolet ones have the new part leather seats, so exact same case as the Solos. The ultraviolet trim really suits them

They have 50 E400MMCs in total 20 18 plates and 30 66 plates so quite a lot to be dished out around the Country
Could Glasgow lose all its remaining Gemini’s if it were to gain the vast majority of these MMC’s? You’d expect the X25/X25A vehicles to be from this intake as well. I’m no expect on this, just looking at numbers!

The solos clearly to Glasgow as well.

No because there's a shortage, need the extra vehicles to operate the X25/X25A, Not concrete yet if we will be getting any of the deckers

I have been sent a photo of the fleet displacement sheet that purports to come from Kernow staff. There is NOTHING labelled for Glasgow on the sheet.
There are however, 11 e400MMC, 6 Solos and the 4 Ilesbus "Mousehole Minibuses", that currently have no new home marked against them.

I have also been told Glasgow must be due something as staff are reportedly being picked up by a "King Coach from Aberdeen" to head south at the weekend.
