Been invited for video shortlisting with West Midlands Railway for a station dispatcher role.
I've not opened the link yet. I want to read what to do, but if I open it, do I have to do it there and then?
Anybody know what it involves? I want to be as well prepared as I can.
Any advice on what to expect, please?
I did one of these a while back. It was a bit weird.
I clicked on it and it seemed to me I had to do it there and then, but it was a while back. I was rather flustered as I had just been rounding escaped sheep up and was looking like I'd been dragged through a hedge (pretty much had) in my rather scruffy olden-days office, so my backdrop was broken shelves with Victorian photo albums on them.
If I did another one in the future I'd probably try and look a bit smarter.
You need a reliable internet connection as you only get one stab at it, and you don't want the wifi to drop off half way through.
Questions were pretty standard, and I thought I answered them ok. i.e can you give us an example of good customer service, can you describe a situation in your current role that has been governed by rules or regulations, can you describe a challenging situation and how you dealt with it. I can't remember the exact wording or questions, but they were all along those lines and nothing unexpected.
The question is posed to you, and then a 30 second countdown begins whilst you think about your answer, and then you get a minute to speak.
I think there were five questions and it lasted about ten minutes.
It was fine, not scary, but I wasn't 100% comfortable with it if I'm honest. I hadn't done one before, but then so haven't most people so I don't think that puts you or me or any candidate at any sort of disadvantage.
The particular provider my A.I interview was with said on their site that all submissions are reviewed by an actual human, but a few people I know who work in that world (but not with that particular organisation) have since told me that at the company they work at they are A.I sifted, and if A.I gets the wrong end of the stick because it doesn't understand idiom, or if it thinks you are reading from a prepared script on account of your eye movements, it doesn't put you on the shortlist. I'm not sure if that's how every provider works, and it would be a shame if they did. On the other hand though, if using these services then provide the employer with a really good shortlist of great candidates I would understand why they'd save time and money by letting a robot do the initial sifting.
