MML Trouble Sunday 1st Feb

Anyone know what's going on with the MML this afternoon ? My afternoon walk took me along the footpath adjacent to Souldrop cutting and at 2pm there was a stopped NB 360 sat next to a stopped SB 10-car Meridian. 2 hours later I see the 360 has moved but the SB 1C94 still seems to be stuck. The traincrew were stood around in the cess having a crafty fag when I walked past, so they clearly had little expectation of a speedy resolution. But at least the upgraded slows meant that there was a robust diversion option and the tunnel was busy this afternoon.

#EMRUpdate our trains are currently running with up to 40 minutes delay due to a fault on a train between Wellingborough and Bedford . This is affecting our trains on our intercity and connect routes.

Looking at replies to EMR tweets from customers, people complaining of been on the train for over 6 hours with hardly any updates and still half a train load of customers to evacuate I've attached the twitter thread below

Looking at RTT train arrived at Wellingborough at 1120 and at 1500 people still saying they are stuck on train waiting to be evacuated.
Train involved seems to be a double Meridian.

Jeez. And not the best of places to detrain from - maybe that's why I saw two trains alongside each other. Cross-decking pax, perhaps ?

Yes, it's a double 222. 022 was leading and 007 (I think) was at the back. Looks like it's on the move at last.

Not ideal on the day when the ECML into Kings Cross is closed, and all ECML customers are being diverted via the MML.

To be fair to EMR the reasons for the chaos are mostly out of their control and often related to past DfT decisions.

EMR 'could' temporarily suspend a couple of the lesser used diagrams to ease the pressure on the 222's. Makes the decision to let Lumo take 222's rather than the 221's sitting around even more ridiculous. And are the 221's so different that EMR could not have leased in a few to ease the pressure? There was talk they were looking at options, but nothing materialised.
