Coast and peak rover ticket purchase

Im looking to buy a coast and peaks rover (with a senior railcard) to cover a lot of the branch lines in its validity area.

Im struggling to find out if I can buy the ticket from a guard on the train (I live in Uttoxeter and the station is unmanned).

Any help would be allowed, thanks in advance

Thanks @BigB , I did look at both of those, but its a bit unclear hence my initial query.

Attached is the screenshot from the GB rail rover site.

It may be best for me to just pop down and ask a guard!

Uttoxeter station has no ticket office but I'm assuming it has a ticket machine, meaning you'll have to have some sort of valid ticket before boarding. Although you'll likely face no problems doing what you say, it may be best to buy a single to Tutbury & Hatton or Blythe Bridge (depending on which way you're heading) as that'll definitely be valid. Do seek out the guard to buy the rover as soon as you board the train though.

Another option is to buy in advance of your first day at time convenient for you.

I have bought rovers from the guard before, at stations with ticket machines as the ticket I wanted (the Rover) was not available. I've often explained this to the guard as they are waiting to dispatch the train and they waive me on.

Sometimes they can't find the tickets in their machine, but the information on the Rail Rover site is helpful for them, in this instance:

Yes, you’ll be able to buy this on train no problems (assuming it’s set up to be sold to paper roll ticket). They’ll just need to head into the Ranger/Rover menu of their mobile ticket issuing system which shouldn’t be too difficult.

I would strongly advise against this because you won't be entitled to a refund of this additional money. You certainly could do this if you're willing to take the hit of the additional cost, or the risk of having to request a refund (a request which is likely to be refused!). However, also note that if you don't get another ticket before Blythe Bridge or Tutbury & Hatton because the conductor's machine is broken, say, or they don't have time, you'll either a) have to leave the train at a station you didn't want to travel to, or b) be put back in the same position you would have been in anyway if you'd boarded without a ticket.

The correct procedure is to speak to the conductor. They will be likely to be able to sell the ticket. You don't need to do this before boarding, though you may be able to if you want to. You can just wait by the rear of the train and observe where they are, then approach them after they move away from the door or come out of the cab. If they're unable to sell tickets e.g. the train is very overcrowded or their machine isn't working, then you approach a member of staff at the station where you leave the train.

I can confirm that the EMR Guard on the train will be able to sell the rover for you. If you speak to them before you get on, they’ll know to come and sort it for you, and if they can come straight to you it gives plenty of time to find the correct thing and sell it.
