This is a recent situation I have encountered.

Consider a railway line that goes A-B-C. I had tickets that were valid for A-B and B-C. However the train I was supposed to get on was delayed, and thus scheduled to run skipping the stop at B to compensate for the delay.

In this situation I decided to skip the delayed train and get on the next train, but would I have been able to get on the delayed train anyways as it is shown as stopping at B on the timetables?

Regardless of the A, B, C stuff, it’s been normal to allow people with split tickets at, say, Coventry, to remain on trains from Glasgow or Edinburgh to London via Birmingham to remain on trains when diverted along the more direct Trent Valley route avoiding Birmingham and Coventry.

Yes, you can't be penalised for the railway's own failings. It is what is in the National Rail Timetable that matters, not operational convenience on the day.

Because that is what the NRCoT guarantees the passenger under Condition 14.
