Does anyone know how oyster will work tomorrow travelling to Gatwick Airport.

Have to travel via East Grinstead from Clapham Junction. When I arrive at Gatwick do I just go up to the barrier staff and ask to be let through so I can then touch out ?

Tomorrow is 25 January, isn’t it?

Am I right to guess you mean tomorrow, 25/1, when engineering works close some lines?

Upon arrival at Gatwick, tap out. Staff will be on hand to show you where to do so.

There is guidance on the Southern website that passengers should not touch out at East Grinstead, then should touch out at Gatwick Airport.

Alternatively, use trains to East Grinstead and change there for replacement buses to/from Gatwick Airport.

If using Oyster or Contactless Pay As You Go to travel to or from Gatwick Airport, please remember to touch your card or device on the reader at the start and then again at the end of your journey only, not at any point in the middle of your journey when changing between trains and replacement buses. This is to ensure you are charged the correct fare. If you do not touch one of the readers at both the start or end of your journey, you’ll need to get in touch with TfL to resolve your incomplete journey.

Unfortunately TfL doesn't have this information up at its own stations... a sign I saw at Bermondsey tonight simply told passengers to go via Victoria or to take a bus from East Grinstead with no detail on what to do with Oyster/contactless.

Interesting I’m going Gatwick tmrw too but taking the half hourly shuttle Victoria - Gatwick via Dorking & Horsham.

Fortunately I’m In the premier inn with a flight Monday morning so time is not an issue

At Gatwick airport, they have you enter the railway station as normal and queue for buses that depart from upper level roadway.

The other weekend at East Grinstead, they were having people use their tickets or cards to operate the gates to exit and seemed to be surprised a number of tickets did not open the gates.

Going from Gatwick last weekend we went through the normal station ticket gates before getting on the coach and then at East Grinstead after getting off the coach they directed us onto the platform through a side gate without going through any ticket gates.

Yes, important note! I found this earlier and had to change my plans for tomorrow to go via East Grinstead as half the trains started showing as canned

FWIW my experience of the bustitution arrangements between Gatwick and East Grinstead was that it was all a very slick and smooth operation. I wouldn't feel any need to actively avoid it, unless I'd somehow learnt of some sort of major calamity on the M23 or other roads (e.g. the A264) in the area.
