Well that is really interesting as I am awaiting an MMI and after chasing yesterday with SWR recruitment they told me there were no timelines. I have gone through the rest of the process and had all assessments and DMI within 6 weeks so MMI is the final stage, but it feels like I am now at the "very long wait" stage. My instinct tells me I could be waiting until Spring or early Summer for an MMI. I did my DMI in December, application was start of November 2025.
The issue I have is I have holiday booked in Summer and I know they won't allocate me training with time booked off, meaning the earliest I can accept start dates is September 2025 onwards when I have no abstractions. My worry is that I am not able to commit to the initial start dates offered based on my situation, and then I basically get forgotten about and miss out. The rumour mill in the recruitment room at Overline house had people saying that some people get through the entire process and never receive a call to start - surely once through the process they have invested enough time and money into you that you should hear something?
So I a partly happy that I have got through most of it so quick but I also feel uncertain that any of it is going to actually come to fruition. I have 3 applications in at 3 depots too, and nobody seems to know or understand the mechanics around how people get allocated a course or start dates. I am desperate to confirm this new job as I am stuck in the police which is literally crumbling around me, and I want out.
Yeah they had asked me to check I didn't have any holidays booked for next 6 months etc. It's tricky to dedicate yourself to it that far in advance. Fingers crossed you hear through soon.
I actually did an assessment centre test few months ago for Southeastern with a guy from the police, seems police to train driver is a popular career move
I had prepared a little before, and stuff like the emergency situation question I had an example in mind already before I went. I think it took all-in-all 4 and a half hours, spent about an hour or so overall having a break/waiting, rest of the time doing the SJE questions, MMI questions and answers/interview.
