You may be closer to the truth than you might think. Amazingly 769434 and 769456 both appear today off AN having been out of traffic (and noted on here yesterday) since 5 Dec and mid-Oct respectively. Perhaps speculation that 769421 has gone back to Long Marston without its transformer (for 456) might just be correct, or even taken off 769452 which looks like its a lease over job for that one - orhaving been named and shamed on here it might amazingly return. Perhaps even someone at Northern/Porterbrook reads this, who knows!!!I think someone must be watching us ha
@0626. 431, 434, 442, 450 and 456 all out to play this morning.
It was presumably to have this mess scrubbed off it. I caught 448 through to Oxford Road from Hindley running on diesel, which was a novelty.Saturday 20 December:-
6 as per diagrams have started the day today, 431/34/48/50/56/58. 442 is at AN, 424 at Brodies, 452 presume at AN.
First time since 3 November that 6 have started.
450 has run into trouble, but seems to have been vandalism, and is currently back on diagram.
Not bad at all! The two 'active' ones that are missing are 431 and 448, which according to workings last week should have finished up at AN on Saturday night. 424 at Brodies since 16/11, 452 at SP on driving training as previously advised. None of the active 769's have come out of AN this morning,(although something came out of AN on 5J01 but didn't even get to Lime Street) and as per the various moves noted above, 150104 is covering the one missing 769 diagram, coming off NH this morning.434, 442, 450, 456 and 458 have all made it out this morning after various moves
Not bad!
Reported as having been 769448 (allocated 29/12/25 03:23:42, removed 29/12/25 05:23:24), left Allerton, (presumably) failed, and returned to the depot 40 minutes after having left.(although something came out of AN on 5J01 but didn't even get to Lime Street)
I wasn't aware a quad 150/156 came off Newton Heath, that's cool!Just so you can see the sort of craziness this is how 104 made it's way onto that 769 diagram we had to organise at short notice this morning at Victoria. Now imagine the fun when all of them are broken...
UNIT ALTERATIONS AT MANCHESTER VICTORIA
5N50 0521 ARR 150127 / 150133 / 150135 / 150104 UNITS TO SPLIT –
- - 150127 TO WORK 2K60 0534 DEP TO HEADBOLT LANE (LEADING WEST END)
- - 150133 / 150135 TO WORK 2N50 0543 DEP TO CLITHEROE (MIDDLE SETS)
- - 150104 TO WORK 2W01 0608 DEP TO SOUTHPORT (EAST END SET)
Correct. These Headbolt/Clitheroe services form peak am services to Manchester, and passengers are left behind when either is short-formed to 2 carriages.I wasn't aware a quad 150/156 came off Newton Heath, that's cool!
Looks like normally it would be front 2 to Headbolt and Back 2 to Clitheroe.
450 is (still) at Newton Heath, just passed it on a tram.450 was today's morning casualty having not made it off Newton Heath. To be fair from postings on here it ran without any faults from the 13th of December, must be an improvement on some measure!
769442 on 11.27 Man Ox Rd-Southport terminated at Wigan Wallgate (having seemingly having had problems at Ince earlier -changing over from diesel to electric whilst going to Manchester on the 10.03 Southport-Manchester Ox Rd). The return Southport-Stalybridge is now starting from Wigan with 150135/28, which is interesting as 150128 started the day coupled with 156418 coming off AN as the replacement for the non-769 available unit.My planned train has just been cancelled, a nice 45 minute wait for the next one to Southport. Sick of being messed about by Northern, I'm raising the white flag now, no more.

Where was 431 , was out yesterdayFri 15/1
5 out today 434/42/48/50/58. 1 x 2 car 156 DMU covering the diagram that started at NH.
769458 (first day out since 7/1) has failed at Wigan Wallgate on 2W11 10.52 Stalybridge-Southport. Has (after a couple of cancellations) been replaced by 150126 -achieved by splitting a Blackburn-Headbolt Lane 4 car set, thus another short-form.
