* Class 455 Allocations - Thu 15th Jan *

One morning peak run and a load of ECS miles for a new pairing this morning. 5732 last worked 10 days ago on the 5th.

Update (4:37pm): Remaining 4 units are out this evening. Pay particular attention to the Reading diagrams, it looks like 5712+5717 will spend the night at Reading.

Update (4:44pm): 5712+5717's first turn, 2V47 1637 London Waterloo to London Waterloo, has been cancelled due to a problem with the traction equipment (MD).

Update (7:24pm): 5712+5717 are now doing a 2nd trip to Weybridge to end their night.

5712+5717

2R53 1815 London Waterloo to London Waterloo
2S63 1952 London Waterloo to Weybridge

Sorry, I am a little bit behind with things this week - did a drag occur on Monday?

Also, does anybody know of any further units having been moved from Litchurch Lane to the scrapper?

I have not worked out whether this is relevent to 701s, 455s or 458s.

5O87 09:38 Derby RTC to Wimbledon, already on its way (today Thursday 15/01/2026).
Empty Non-Passenger Stock.
So neither ECS drag (701) or light loco (455/458 collection).

Just n case someone would rather see it than miss it.
Or can anyone add any info ?.
(I will ask on Urgent TOPS request).

Answer from @47286Dan on Urgent TOPS request

37501 GROG DERBY RTC 575O871F15 V * WIMBPDTSD N
37512 GROG DERBY RTC 575O871F15 V * WIMBPDTSD N
37884 GROG DERBY RTC 575O871F15 V * WIMBPDTSD N
With barrier wagons
6344 6393

So three 37s !.

No 455 scrap moves happening this week, potentially one on Monday. An off lease 455 went to Strawberry Hill Depot yesterday which I'd guess is a temporary move to free up space at Wimbledon Park.

It's likely a ROG loco and some barrier wagons for the move of 458529 tomorrow to Long Marston. Barrier wagons would change the headcode from light loco. The more interesting move will be this one posted earlier in the thread for tomorrow which is the move itself

Ah, of course - barrier wagons would turn a light loco move into "Empty Non-Passenger Stock".
I vaguely recall 455s have not required barriers before so I assume it is for a 458 as I have no recollection of how they get dragged ?.
Adds weight to your observation of the move tomorrow to Long Marston (for a 458).
Begs the question what loco(s) ?
(it reversed at Nuneaton so maybe, just maybe top and tailed).

EDIT

Turns out its three 37s and two barriers !.
(I updated my original post above).

I have just seen the train and the formation is:
37884
37501
the 2 barrier vehicles
37512
Im assuming 37501 and 512, along with the barrier coaches, will be used to drag 458529, which leaves 37884 to drag 455710 and 455737 on Monday

I've just enjoyed/endured a trip on a pair of Class 455s on 17.58 off Clapham Junction heading to Reading. Platform announcer at CJ was telling us all to make the most of travelling on some vintage 1980's units. We were all squeezed in like sardines making the experience even more memorable!!!!

Where are these units ring scrapped now following the demise of unimetals?

I note C F Booth has also filed a notice to appoint an administrator today, therefore unclear if this remains an option?

Is long marston an interim storage location pending eventual scrapping?

Regards

Just spotted this path movement tomorrow, aren't sure will it operate or not

The locos came down on this :-

My assumption is it will be 37884.

The other two 37s and barriers appear to be for a move of 458529 to Long Marston for storage today (16/01/2026).

The 458 move is currently lined up and looks ready to go at Wimbledon

I wonder whether there some enthusiasts out to ride them for the precious few days while we still can ;)

Little Moor Lane Bridge, Loughborough, today at 1302. Still from a video.

A minute earlier: Being held at the signal to wait for the DMU (Number unrecorded) to clear Platform 3 at Loughborough,

Anecdote alert:
I used to work in South West London and occasionally, my shift allowed me to leave early. So I used to pop down to Putney Station and pick up a 455 going to Twickenham. If a 455/7 turned up, I would seek out the 508 trailer for the sheer grice. One time when alighting at Twick, I had to ask Nick Ferrari to stand out of the way of the door open button. :)

455s. I watched them arrive, and now I'm watching them go...

RTT has 158865 calling at Loughborough at 1258 on 2P62 1233 Nottingham to leicester, and 222022+ 222102 on 1F30 1102 St Pancras to Sheffield (terminated today at Chesterfield) passing Loughborough at 1302, (46 minutes late).- the delay was at Elstree, and didn't affect the scrap drag which had run vuia the Marston Vale line

I’m planning on going to London on the 24th January in about a week. Does anyone know if any 455s are going to be pathed that day?

It's only decided on the day. I'd advise keeping an eye on this thread, the other 455 thread and regular checking on Real Time Trains through the day.

There do seem to be one or two diagrams that are throwing up 455s on a semi regular basis - check the reports from the past few days. Those will be your best bet, but there are no guarantees.
