Help, please! I booked a ticket to return to London (Clapham Junction) from Honiton on Saturday 17 January. I’ve just found out that my selected service (13.55) has been cancelled. I cannot find any information as to why and, more importantly, there appear to be no other trains making that journey on Saturday! No sign of any engineering works and checking “disruption” on the SWR site gets me nowhere. Can anyone help, please? Thank you!

I’d suggest contacting SWR customer services, I’ve found them fairly helpful in the past. Either call or use one of the social media options though, waiting for an email response might be too slow.

All the train schedules were only changed last night and they haven't put buses in yet, I suspect emergency engineering works relating to the weather from a few weeks ago.

Under the "Other disruption that may affect your journey in the future" section at https://www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey there is the following message:

Crewkerne station car park

The car park at Crewkerne station will be closed on both days, with the exception of limited parking for blue badge holders.

Customers seeking to park at Crewkerne and travel towards Exeter may wish to consider parking at Axminster to use the rail replacement bus service to Exeter.

Customers seeking to park at Crewkerne to travel towards London may wish to consider parking at Yeovil Junction to use the train service to London Waterloo.

Journey planners

Journey planners are currently showing no services from Axminster to Exeter St Davids on the affected dates.

Bus services for Saturday 17 will be added on Friday 16. Bus services for Sunday 18 will be added on Saturday 17.

We’re sorry for the short notice of this closure.

Please check back for updates.
So looks like hourly busses between Crewkerne and Exeter St Davids calling at Honiton and Exeter Central only, plus an hourly stopping bus.

Emergency work to repair a landslip, photo on link

However not clear to me if they are emergency works, why they are waiting 4 days until Saturday, and not starting promptly.

Engineers will carry out emergency works near Axminster over the weekend of Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 of January to stabilise the railway following a landslip.

To allow these repairs to take place safely, buses will replace trains between Crewkerne and Exeter throughout the weekend. One bus will run directly between Crewkerne and Exeter, calling at Honiton and both Exeter Central and Exeter St Davids, while a further bus will call at all intermediate stations between Crewkerne and Exeter St Davids.

Well, they're not routine engineering works, are they?
Although Network Rail did put out the following
Engineers plan to return in Spring 2026 to strengthen embankments and prevent landslips from disrupting journeys.
It is not Spring yet, so the messages are getting confusing between emergency, routine, scheduled, and can wait until forthcoming weekend

It's a mix of emergency engineering works to repair the embankment as currently there is a 5mph speed restriction in place in the affected area.

So network rail deem it safe enough to run trains until the weekend before putting in a repair in the hope it doesn't get worse
