There's a couple of other lapses in there as well.
It's the old problem - if you can't write the communications and marketing correctly, what else are you getting wrong? Anyone checking the engineering specs and drawings for accuracy?

Engineers very rarely put out their own press releases.

Observation report for Wolverton 20/01/2026.

There has been a change (from what I am used to)
The trio of 18s parked alongside the small brick building that could be viewed from Lidl (from the SE) and from the car showrooms (from the SW) have GONE !. Now I know the actual 18s there have been swapped between each of my visits but this time they were absent.
However parked on its own a few roads deeper in to the site and roughly in front of the big shed was 18004-1 slightly easier to see.
As usual the view from behind the car dealership is easier than from behind Lidl. In fact Lidl seems to be harder this year as the dreaded Buddlea flower heads seem to have got taller.

From the canal I could be fairly sure there were at least three 18s parked in a row. On previous visits I could judge there were one or two there but drone footage from last year showed that was actually four.
Usually, with a lot of patience, I could identify one. But this time although I could see more the only number I got was a maybe - 18005-8 maybe.
The 18s there are fairly near BUT the view is very obscured by pallisade fencing and a lot of low branches. I went this time of year to avoid the leaves. I think I need to take my 20kg folding ladder as the canal tow path is about 12 feet below the level of the siding(s) the other side of the canal !.

Has anyone been able to id more very recently ?.

Here is the drone footage from last year circa 26/04/2025 for context.
18004 (nearest the camera), 18011, 18001

Seen in this Youtube video:
Notes :-
At 0:44 (seconds) the large flat canopy roof at the dealership has gone !
. . . . (the three 18s are in the distance) !.
At 1:02 are the three 18s in what I had got used to being the usual place.
. . . . (the lone 18 this time was about two roads to the further/left)
. . . . (the lone snow plow has become three or four)
At 1:20 are the four 18s that in the distance that are over by the canal (see the grey pallisade fence behind them.
At 4:35 a closer view of the four 18s by the canal.
At 5:05 the lone class 18 down the side of the Royal train shed.

So I wonder where three of the 18s are nowadays - probably tucked down the side of the Royal Train shed !.

I will try and look for more up-to-date drone footage.

I have just encountered a more recent video of the 18s at Wolverton. It was filmed 30 October 2025 but has only just been uploaded.

Start watching from 31m:40s.

It shows FOUR 18s where the three I have been accustomed to were (by that small brick building that spoils the view).
They all have their cabs facing West which means the furthest West pair could be easy enough to identify from the car showroom (at 32:35 gives the idea - you can see the grey car show room in the distance).
The West most one is 18004 and the next Western most would appear to be 18008.
They have since moved and on my visit on Tuesday 20/01/2026 only 18004 was anywhere near - one or two tracks to the right (further from that pesky brick building) but still visible from the car showroom, pity the other three were not with it !.

It also shows the four over by the canal. All appear to have their cabs facing East. So that means all eight that are meant to be at Wolverton are arguably visible Or at least certainly the one hiding down the side of the Royal train shed must have moved.

To recap, the class 18s are located as follows (with eight at Wolverton) :-
18001-7
18002-5 Loughborough
18003-3 Scunthorpe
18004-1
18005-8
18006-6 Crewe
18007-4 Tunstead
18008-2
18009-0
18010-8
18011-6
18012-4 Whitemoor
18013-2
18014-0 Eastleigh Works
18015-7 Eastleigh Works

That is according to my records. Go on someone tell me others have come back !.

The video seems to be riddled with adverts.

What happened to the Snowdon loco's?
The Snowdon locos were dismantled by Clayton as they did not come up to expectations - presumably some of the parts could be reused.

Are any of the Class 18s actually being used
Not sure but the one at Brush Works Loughborough may be still in use - it is probably operated by a non-ASLEF driver. Don't think the one at Scunthorpe is in use any more and I don't think the one at Tunstead has ever been used there - but I stand to be corrected on all three of these points. The ones at main line locations are apparently "blacked" by ASLEF due to there being no safe egress from the cab in case of a batery fire.

I only ever saw 18006 at Crewe Bradford Hall

Engineers very rarely put out their own press releases.
In a previous employment I had to proof read press releases and marketing material which had been written by either a civil engineer or a building surveyor turned marketing manager. The general standard of spelling, grammar and punctuation was very poor.

For reference the class 18s are 18007 nearest then 8,9,10,3. 4 next to the plough. thanks to Mark who was able to ID them
The above is from the 09/05/2026.

When I visited Wolverton recently it did look exactly the same. Except I noticed the Buddlea had cut down.

The nearest was 18007-4 but I am not 100% sure, the other four were impossible for me.

The 18 on the right was definitely 18004-1 and has been in that position since late last year, possibly on its own but there used to be three of them there before that. Always viewed from the car dealership.

EDIT
I should note, in April, 18003 returned to Wolverton from Scunthorpe and 18007 returned from Tunstead.

So.....if anyone could offer support on these locos would they be suitable for the tender for battery units for the London underground?

Given this...

The ones at main line locations are apparently "blacked" by ASLEF due to there being no safe egress from the cab in case of a batery fire.

I don't think operating one in a tunnel would be considered.
