12/01/2026 Fire near Redhill station

Just had a text from someone being held near Three Bridges that theirs been a train on fire at Redhill station. All services appear to be cancelled and the southern website says "dealing with an emergency incident"

Quick Look at RTT shows numerous Thameslink services sitting outside the station. Only ones at platform are a Tonbridge terminator and a GWR Turbo (which arrived half hour ago and should’ve departed short after). If what you are saying is correct, my money will be on the GWR, but obv somethings going on

Edit - Thameslink trains are now diverting onto the Quarry line and GWR are reversing at Reigate

1V37 0700 Gatwick Airport to Reading appears to be the responsible train, formed of 165112.

Perhaps. I had a reply from my MP (Jeremy Hunt) about the service on the NDL and it seems that GWR have set up a task force to look at the issue. Given the problems with the stock, the new level crossings (despite weeks of testing) and the staffing, I'm not optimistic!

165112 has done comparatively recently, when the centre car was out for wheelset repairs.

I noted last Thursday that there were (at least) two 2-car sets on afternoon NDL services leaving Reading, which suggests the stock shortage is getting worse.

According to the data feed to RTT, 165112 is back in service this morning as a 3-car so there could not have been any significant damage
