Hereward Line, The Fens. Tuesday 16th December 2025.
Breakfast at Mc Donalds, followed by a visit to Trains4U at Peterborough, where I treated myself to my 6th 00 Gauge WD Austerity 8F 2-8-0, 90732 “Vulcan”, the only one in the class named in BR days and I was lucky with this one as it was a second-hand limited edition for £74, and one I didn’t manage to see in my trainspotting days, it was shedded at Colchester, March and finished her days at 36C Frodingham.
The morning was dark and overcast, I next drove along the River Nene, north of Flag Fen and to the village of Whittlesea and onto Turves and the Three Horseshoes Crossings. It was however quite cold, poor light and with light rain at times and despite sitting in the car waiting for the barriers to come up, I only stayed for a few hours, before driving back to my son`s house.
Freight passing through was 66702 light engine, 66735, 66041, 66110, 66721 and 66780.
