I read that Llandore viaduct is going to be closed for maintenance / track renewal meaning no trains in out of Swansea from the east. Why therefore is the Swansea District Line not being used to run direct services between Port Talbot and Llanelli and hence west Wales?

"Network Rail has apologised for any inconvenience the works will cause.

It says the works, to assist with track renewal, will mean buses will replace trains between Port Talbot Parkway and Swansea from January 26 to February 6, and again on February 8. Anyone who uses the route has been urged check before they travel".

How much route retention is there along there? Either that or finding the resource to route conduct by a freight operator?

There's usually 1 train per day in the early morning.

There are a couple more trains per day that seem to be using that line during the closure, only took a brief look so I might be wrong.

With regard to the closure of Landore Viaduct , I find it ridiculous and a waste of resources not to mention the inconvenience to passengers, who have to get on/off their train hop on to a bus and continue their journey to/from Port Talbot/Llanelli, while there is a direct alternative route. This seems even more peculiar, especially considering their are a couple early/late services that will make use of the Swansea District line whilst the closure is implemented . When the Loughor viaduct was renewed a few years ago most of the West Wales services for Cardiff and destinations beyond avoided Swansea and used the Swansea District line, so it does seem strange that the same direct diversion cannot be utilised on this upcoming occasion.

I wonder why the District Line hasnt been used, at least to provide an hourly service between West Wales and Cardiff/Manchester. Ive seen a few trains in the morning running I assume as ECS so a limited number are being swapped between West Wales and Cardiff. Also Heart of Wales services are being diverted to and terminating at Carmarthen this week. A set each day will most likely need to return to Canton for this also.

I noticed the road replacement bus for Swanline stations seems to be more frequent than the actual regular train service which is hourly in peak and 2 hourly off peak. Some hours there are scheduled to be 2 buses an hour which is a far better service. I assume all buses are running as planned? Unless its just easier for TFW to run all of their road transport to call at all stations. With the GWR ones just covering Neath, Swansea.
