HD01 has suffered a dodgy Speedo tonight and has been swapped off 1V62 at Crewe and sent to the shed.
HD05 was pinched off 1W63 at Crewe and sent back to Cardiff on 1V62 to keep the balance right over the weekend.

Morning

I see that 1W91 (67008 and HD02) was cancelled at Llandudno Junction this morning - "a problem with the train" on RTT

Is it a problem with the loco or set ?

Any news on when 015 will be bringing the broken 025 - back to Crewe from Holyhead?

Thank you

Dave
ETH issues with it keep cutting out. Likely loco but potentially could be coaches.

Not yet for the light engines. Seems likely spare drivers will be kept spare with all the weather related disruption etc.

Curse of 67008 and HD02 returns it seems ;)
Hopefully shouldn't be too hard to fix, 1W96 tonight is still allocated to HD01 as of midday now.

Don't think we need HD09 or HD10
I forget exactly what TfW announced when HD04-HD08 were added to the planned fleet (and the 170s removed from it, I believe now sub-leased from TfW to EMR). I certainly can't recall any official, public, statement that Cardiff-Holyhead would be reduced from three mark 4 services each way daily (two diagrams, that had by that point already been introduced using HD01-HD03 I believe) back to one each way. The current 7 mark 4 sets (HD01-HD07) certainly don't appear to be enough to reinstate the other two Cardiff-Holyhead workings.

They focus on the Manchester to Cardiff route because it's the busiest route out of the two. I'd imagine at some point HD08 will come online but I don't know when now they had to swap parts for the "new" HD02. The reliability isn't great on the mk4s anyway and when failed have to be swapped for a unit instead.

Lots of shuffling of stock happens without a public statement. The extra capacity was handy but the first class was woefully used on those services and a complete waste of a coach. First on the Manchesters is vastly better utilised.

Due to the Leominster collision having taken a lot of the resources/vehicles the (heavy overhaul/refurb cover set) HD08 is around 12 months later than originally planned and is currently at Worksop with an expected completion date of late October. HD01-03 will then go for their heavy overhaul, repaint and internal refurbishment expected to take approximately 3 months per set starting in January 2027, so we are now at December 2027 when HD04-07 go in for lighter refurbishment work, once they are completed then HD08 becomes an additional set and there's potential for some additional Holyhead workings. Looking at the December 2028 timetable at the earliest before thats at all likely and a lot of factors will likely change by then!

Clues as to the future of MKIV usage on Holyhead services (beyond the currently required one a day service) may be found in the upcoming timetable recast in May. Since the extra services went back to DMU workings both the traincrew diagrams and calling patterns of those services have changed, making it difficult to switch them back over. If those services lose their request stops, and revert to being exclusively worked by MKIV competent depots, it might be a sign of things to come.

Or not; as @sd0733 says it's not easy to make much changes with the current fleet situation.

Sure, nothing wrong with that on a short-medium term basis. I was just wondering if there had been an official statement in this case and, if not, pointing out that a few additional sets would be nice to allow them to fully deliver what was promised.

That's another interesting point; LNER repainted the remaining IC225s into their new 'oxblood' livery a little while ago because they were due a repaint on the maintenance schedules, so the paint on some of the TfW coaches (those still in the Virgin Trains East Coast base livery) must be getting pretty tired now. Will HD08 therefore be the first to appear with the TfW heavy overhaul, repaint and internal refurbishment, or is it just having part of the work done and will go back for the repaint after HD01-03 have been through?

From what I've seen HD08 has had either one or a few coaches painted into the new scheme.

The Virgin Trains East Coast sets are VERY tired.

As long as it is not affecting the running then I would not want them taking out of service for painting.

Only seems to be 1W65 of the Cardiff to Manchesters that needed a substitute today.

Speedo fault on 67020
1W57 ran via East Usk yard
To turn set, so DVT could lead to Crewe

1V46 from Crewe 197015
1W65 - 197102

As far as im aware HD08 is planned to be the first one to be done. Some of the vehicles are already externally painted.
