thanks, do i need to return the letter GTR sent me? Or only the letter I wrote?
I don't think that there's anything in the letter that you have been sent that says that you have to return it. So don't send that back to the, But as mentioned above, make sure you include the reference they've given you in what you send them, so that they can attach the letter you're sending them to the right file.

I’d suggest giving them the dates you will be away, and asking them to either correspond via email, or take into account the time you will be away when setting a deadline for you to respond via post.
As well as this, if at all possible you should have someone keep an eye on your post while you’re away. If you miss the deadline and they prosecute you, saying “but I told them I was away” isn’t going to fix things with the court.

Also send your response with tracked postage.

thank you for your replies. I sent my tracked postage on 29th Dec and haven’t received their response yet.

But I just tried going to http://payments.gtrailway.com/ and input my reference number and name, a settlement amount pops up with the correct date of incident and station. Should I assume an out of court settlement is given?

Yes I think so.

Paying it before receiving the letter probably wouldn’t cause any issues but I guess technically you might not be entering into the contract by paying the amount because you have not yet received the correspondence telling you what exactly you’ll be paying for (which is for them to not prosecute you)? Can anyone with more specialist knowledge confirm whether that could be the case?

What’s the amount - does it seem like they’ve investigated your ticket purchasing history or not?
