Personally I just wish to see more tours in the North East, especially steam ones

Hopefully Tyseley can have another shot at getting 7029 back to Newcastle after last year's attempt

I would be interesting in seeing a full schedule for the Britannic Explorer and British Pullman.
I was shocked to hear they don't run at all from January to May [Quote : Leuvenn]

I can't comment on the Britannic Explorer, but the British Belmond Pullman has 14 steam hauled workings Victoria to Dover between mid March and early November.

They usually have a diesel tour around the second week in may, still no steam drivers for the northern operations so there be nothing north of the border.

Anyone heard any rumours about this year's programme of RPSI * railtours? Nothing on the website yet?

* Railway Preservation Society of Ireland.
No not yet they will release soon and I hope their May tour is good one, also look out for Tailte tours as they also have good things.

That’s a shame as I’ve always wanted to try their steam enterprise which the used to do I believe before the steam operations in Northern Ireland stopped.

They usually have steam day trips from Dublin - to places like Bray, Wicklow and Wexford - on certain Summer weekends.

Thing is last year they had booked steam to Wexford then withdrew steam for diesel so you can’t really bet on steam happening in summer, although I’d love a steam tour to Ennis or Galway

What set was this, and more importantly when?

To me "raspberry ripple" is the nickname for the old WYPTE livery!
The InterCity Executive-liveried mark 1 charter set that was much used in the late 1980s and 1990s. I believe that a lot of the vehicles involved ended-up with West Voast.... although open to correction as always.

I looked at the Britannic trips to the Cambrian recently. Dates are: 30 March, 13 April, 4/11/25 May, 1/8/15/22/29 June, 6/20/27 July, 3/17/21/24 August, 14/28 September, 19 October and finally 9 November.

Not sure the loco but they are trying again at Newcastle in April. Not on the website yet, I got an email about it as I was booked on York-Newcastle for the November attempt.

I was reading in one of the railway magazines over Christmas that there are also Brexit-related issues preventing them from operating north of the border as well. Plus, as you say, the only steam driver they had for Northern Ireland (Noel Playfair) died a couple of years ago.

That could be true as they had to cancel a tour in October due to Brexit holding back their operating license renewal.

Have a look here, you should have the itinerary that includes Keighley then look at the calendar for dates

The Bounds Green rake with the white roofs? Thanks.

Those are the coaches that ended up with Riviera (and which also made their way to preserved railways as Riviera gradually reduced its fleet), and finally with West Coast more recently.

Ok, thanks.

Whenever I search on there it doesn’t appear to return any results from what I can see

This page should work better: https://www.belmond.com/trains/europe/uk/britannic-explorer/journeys/the-lake-district-2026
They've created a new page for 2026, rather than update the one from 2025.
Thanks for this, it looks like they are running on:

20 March
10 & 24 April
15 May
12 June
10 & 31 July
14 August
4 & 25 September
9 & 30 October
20 November

I’m surprised it’s running during October and November. Would have thought the weather would see a drop in interest

Vintage Trains have announced the next attempt will be Saturday 11th April, though they have not said which Castle will haul it.

Something is quite like is now that the mainline link has been opened for GCR(N) is to see a tour of some sort taking advantage of that. Now I do know that Scotsman will be moving in through that link, but I don’t think it’ll have passengers behind it, maybe a start could be to make that a passenger enabled ‘positioning move’.

Another thing that may be a bit off at the moment, will EMR give the 222s a farewell of sorts (like was done with the 43s) or not, as I would like to see one.

As diesel railtours become seriously expensive it’s interesting that Saphos has £99 standard class tickets on Crewe to S&C steam tours with a heritage diesel bolted on the back.
