Was there any reason why White Rose station was built at this location? It must have cost a hell of a lot with all the high platforms and supports, massive lift and steps in those 2 towers , and so far away from the White Rose centre, why was it not built on the curve much closer to the White Rose centre and not such a high level?
I imagine there is a simple answer out there

It was built for the business park, with a contribution from the park’s owners. There’s no sensible walking route to White Rose Shopping Centre, and to get to Cottingley you have to walk to Elland Road, find a crossing point and walk back uphill.

I always thought it was a daft idea, can you tell? Cottingley isn’t ideal, but more housing nearby and a cheaper fix. See threads passim.

Nice how a business park can pay to get some peoples' local station closed then, hey! :s (ok probably a bit of an uncharitable perspective)

I suppose something will have to happen at some point with the TRU rapidly progressing.

Just off the top of my head, I would have guessed that "on the curve" might be a big factor, since it's been stated here quite a few times that platforms on curved track are, if not actually totally forbidden, seriously discouraged for new stations due to the gaps between the platform and the train doors.

If the station had been part-funded by the owners of the mall rather than the owners of the business park, it probably would have been built slightly closer to the mall. Curvature would be an obstacle at some locations along that stretch, but not at every possible site. One would hope that if the mall was the real driver behind the station then a bit more thought would have gone into linking the station to the main mall building.
Over the years since the mall opened there had been numerous suggestions of building a station- be that a typical WYPTE "flatpack" job like nearby Cottingley, or a much more substantial structure on the electrified Wakefield line on the other side of Dewsbury Road (with an accompanying Meadowhall-style "sky bridge).
Frankly this whole affair needs to be documented in detail, and taught in universities as a clear example of how not to manage public transport infrastructure projects.

Looks like work is beginning to restart.

Usually the reason I don't like business parks is that they have poor transport links. This one will have a good link but has got it by stealing a station from a local housing estate. Which doesn't feel especially good.

The restart has been announced by Mayor of West Yorkshire as well!
White Rose rail station will start again within the next few months, Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin has announced.

Hopefully the council invests improvements to the local footpaths from Churwell and Cottingley Station to Elland Road street access.
The foot path connecting Old Road and Elland Road is so narrow I don't think you could roll a suitcase through it.

The shopping centre pretty much duplicates what’s already in the centre of Leeds, so nobody from the Leeds direction is going to go there to shop and anybody coming from the Dewsbury direction has the option of carrying on ten minutes to Leeds if they want a bit more character and variety in their shops.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
To make a comparison, how well does the White Rose shopping centre compare with the Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester in terms of quality of shops and public transport access.

The Trafford Centre has a tram stop on the Manchester Metrolink system and a multi-bay bus station.

In fairness the Trafford Centre's 3x the size of the White Rose.

Short answer: not very well at all.

Slightly longer answer: comparing it with the Trafford Centre is fairly meaningless, it isn't unheard of for people to drive from somewhere like Heckmondwike to the Trafford Centre and make a day out of it, but nobody is doing the same sort of journey to visit White Rose. The main role it plays is for those with cars to avoid having to pay for parking in Leeds city centre by shopping there instead, it certainly isn't a "destination" in the same way that the Trafford Centre or Meadowhall is.
The White Rose Centre also has a multi-bay bus station, but it's tucked away at the end of the mall and is a hotspot for anti-social behaviour.

I was unaware of the social problems you state at the bus station at the White Rose Centre. One can only hope that those problems do not transfer to the new railway station.
Given the distance between the mall and the station, I wouldn't worry about that.
As mentioned in the various threads on this project, it's easy to forget that the shopping mall isn't the main focus of the station because it's the mall that most people think of when the station (and the name "White Rose") is discussed.
One of the beneficiaries of the station will be a nearby sixth-form centre though, and that's exactly the age group that tends to get a bit rowdy at the bus station, so perhaps I'm not being cautious enough!

Bus drivers using the corner near Stand A as a urinal? Probably not.
(Okay it was just the one time I saw this but it was lunchtime and there other people present.)

So has anyone had a walk near the station? Any signs of work happening?
I pass daily, Monday to Friday on the train to Leeds for work and.....no work has restarted as yet, maybe unsurprisingly, but not sure why? Contracter not available? The site, currently, does look an eyesore though.
