Railway authors

Of the railway authors, who is your favourite and why? My personal one is Roger Ford. I have read every Informed Sources since inception. He is very knowledgeable.
Ian Walmsley is funny.

Agree with both of those, although I know that on this forum Roger does take a bit of a knocking - not sure why.

I used to like Alan Williams, but over the years I've found that I can't even be bothered to read his column any more. I think he just got too repetitive in his whinging.

I enjoy a good Modern Railways column too.

Roger Ford has become a little too technical in his writings. I think Mr Walmsley has replaced him as the best writer in the magazine, with a constant set of spot-on witty observations. It's a style that the USA Trains magazine has long had. I did once wonder here if he was a grown-up David Maxey from Railtour Review!

Bernard Mills. He has written many books about railways in the west of England. They feature his excellent photographs and knowledgeable captions.

David Maxey what a legend, i used to cut out and keep his articles from the magazines when i needed to throw the rest away as i loved to re-read them. Unfortunately no longer have them!
