PM speaking now and has said that 16,000 police on the streets tonight (compared with 6,000 last night), all leave for police officers cancelled, reinforcements from around the country have been called in, court proceedings to be sped up for those arrested and others will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law and Parliament will be recalled.

So no Army and no water cannons.

i hope that with all these police officers being called to london, there are a lot who have been sent from south wales, that we dont have any more trouble elsewhere in the uk. In fact i am not looking forward to be driving a bus in cardiff tonight.

there was a few problems in swansea last night from what other members of staff have told me.

Why don't the Police just get their mates in NewsCorp to hack into the phones of the rioters so they can find out what's going on? ;)

All very well deploying more numbers, but its very counter productive if all they do is complain they're 'powerless' to stop the looters, whilst standing around watching 14 and 15 year olds trash a local business.

Ms May needs to grow a pair and start to think more pro-actively instead of reactively.

Wonder if their will be a vote of confindence on Thursday?

Bringing in the army would be a massive mistake as it could kick the whole thing off even more.

Lots of people on less then favourable 'news' sites are going on 'shoot to kill' and all other stupid methods of dealing with it, also the normal all people on benifits are scroungers & cheats which is for i and my father (Im his carer) is incredibly annoying.

Also in words of my dad when a tory goverment comes around riots begin :/

All the water cannon are in Northern Ireland. As are the plastic bullets. Water cannon have the distinct advantage of getting a start on clearing up the debris at the same time as detering the rioters.

They're on here as well AFAICS. Ignore 'em, or possibly approach it in another way. After all, what could be more enjoyable than reading a ridiculous, outraged, impotent right wing rant from a total wingnut, and imagining them imploding with fury amid shouted demands to kill anyone who doesn't think like them?

You just have to read the Daily Mail comments for that!

Most comments like that i allow them to go over my head, as try not to let them get to me, as lots of people my age would love to work but places to get to and lack of transport doens't help.

Also noticed Cameron didn't take any questions from the Media also doesn't seem like any politiation want to talk to anyone.

And why would they? They must be a bit embarrassed and also TBF need to be sorting things out not talking to reporters.

No, they need to start telling people what they're going to do about it. Feeling embarrassed when you're faced with an unprecedented situation like this is the most crass excuse I have ever heard.

I've just seen Cameron's statement. It's basically all bluster. He is desperately trying to reassure the law abiding citizens of the affected areas that things are under control when they clearly haven't been.

Similarly the acting Commissioner of the Met has been basically begging people not to allow thier teenagers out tonight because they will be dealing with any trouble 'robustly'.
All trouble makers will have seen so far is an ineffectual police response, which will no doubt encourage further violence and destruction tonight.

I really hope I am wrong.

I am hoping the government & police will get their act together. I dont blame the police on the ground as i think most of them are doing ok but they are struggling i just hope drafting in more officers from elsewhere in the uk will lead to more trouble in other cities.

Any opinions from anyone on where or not the game at Wembley should be called off. I personally think it should, i wouldnt want officers there when there are problems on the otherside of the city

ok perhaps myself and a few other are going abit too far calling for the army to be put out onto the streets but the police need to be tougher on these yobs, how about dragging the stupid parents of some of these kids and charging them for their kids damage.

The game has already been called off. Undoubtedly the correct decision.

Regarding the police response, it has been pretty lacklustre. But what can we expect after the recent resignations?

The senior ranks now seem content to allow things to happen and then make arrests later. This strategy needs to be questioned. In my opinion, the feebleness of the police actions on Saturday and Sunday has greatly contributed tot he spread of the rioting. I don't blame the ones on the front line for that, but those that introduced and developed the current softly, softly tactics. It seems the disease of avoiding confrontation at all costs is endemic everywhere.

people doo need to get a backbone i think the lack of 1 has not helped the situation.

This certainly doesnt look good on london or the uk, i fear what will happen if this were to happen next year during the olympics

I feel so sorry for the people who have lost homes, particulary the owner of that furnicture store which has been completly burned down.

Where the hell is borris and i am surprised we havent heard from Ken livingston over this

I don't think the instances which have occured over the last few days will have a long term detremental affect to the pereption of the UK and specifically London.

These riots (whether those involved know it or not) are about the current economic climate. Something like this was bound to happen with the actions of the government to cut back spending, and with a lot less jobs out there.

Students use rallys to protest. Others use marches. The inner city deprived areas gain their voice through social unrest. This is not me condoning the actions which have occured, just trying to comprehend it. In my mind these actions are the inner city youths at breaking point through having no work, no money, and no ability to resolve it. It is a pressure release, and a cry for help. As such, they will have no affect on the games next year, or on inward investment.

Many will not agree with me. And to re stress, I do NOT condone the actions which have occured. And I hope that this all dies down very very soon. But by only referring to is as mindless criminiality will not resolve anything, and only lead to a much greater problem further down the line.

It is not a cry for help. It's a game and a way to obtain more consumer goods for many of the participants. Though no doubt anyoen actually convicted of any offence will try and claim that it's a protest about poverty, or something similar.

Watching the "news" this morning was no different from the news at 1am. To boot it's all London this, London that, London, London, London also Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol. Back to London.

I couldn't help but notice that Downing Street was incredibly peaceful, I wonder if David "We're all in this together" Cameron will show his face in at least one of the areas affected like Churchill (and the King) did during the Blitz. Either way he'd better not trying syphoning officers from West Midlands Police but I don't think May or Cameron are that stupid.

It's greed and looting masquerading as poverty.

This has gone beyond rioting for any real reason. This is just purely rioting for the fun of it, and using other reasons to justify it.

Quite so. The rioting outside of London is certainly because of the police's lack of force in dealing with the looters.

The death of Mr Duggan may have been the catalyst, but it's gone way beyond that now.
