Unusual: Blackpool North to Blackpool South

Whilst visiting family, I noticed (what I think is) an unusual working on the Blackpool lines.

Probably because Preston station is currently unavailable by rail for the next few days. Certainly it's an unusual hourly service operating each way between Blackpool South / Blackpool North.

Yep, talking to staff yesterday at Preston, they mentioned this service as they were prepping for the closedown.

Running an hourly service (which actually isn’t cancelled) is very rare in the BPS line!

And looking on google maps, the time to walk and the time to take the train between Blackpool North and Blackpool South is exactly the same today at 53 minutes...
Though the Northern app won't offer any tickets to take the direct train

Operated by a 156 and 150. The worst rolling stock Blackpool North has seen in some time, given it usually has Classes 195, 323 and 331.

Back in 1991 (BR days), wasn't a temporary "Maudlands" platform specially built at Tulketh Brow in Preston, thus allowing Blackpool line trains to call there, whilst Preston station itself was briefly inaccessible due to bridge maintenance works inbetween?

Walking is likely to be more reliable!

Best you could have hoped for is a 195 as I expect the branch is isolated due to the works at Preston and are 195s cleared to Blackpool South?

Can't say i know but they've never ran it and would platforms even be right for them?
