Not sure where to put this but as it happened on my journey home to Penrith from Euston yesterday (AWC) I thought I'd put it here- mods, do move if not appropriate.

The train manager came round to perform the ticket check and clipped my paper ticket. It was only later I realised his clippy thing (I have no idea what they're called) had a steam-train template (so I had a wee steam-train shaped hole in my ticket :) ). What a lovely idea! I've never seen that before. Are there other templates? Are train managers allowed to chose one?

I've seen elephants, rabbits and cats but none recently.
They were available online from one of the usual Chinese sources

About 10-15 years ago as a wean I travelled with my family to Scarborough. On the last leg from York I remember somewhat feeling left out that I had not a ticket to be clipped (as my parents had all the tickets, obviously), so the very cheery guard took the seat reservation and clipped it! I don't have it any more, but I recall it was a bear's paw or similar.

I've had the steam train one before. And I am sure a few other shapes! I didn't realise they were rare at the time.
