Glasgow - Edinburgh XC only with reservations.

I plan on Thursday 11th Aug to travel from Glasgow > Edinburgh. Since we're both cheap and have next to no money for our day out, we're going XC. I know the train leaves 10:59 from GLC and departs 17:51 from EDB. I'm wondering how I would book two seats for the journey (I have had problems getting seats before, and I had to stand between Haymarket and Waverley.) The seats should be at a table, window side, me forward facing and him backward facing. (i'm very pedantic for a £3 fare).

I want to know if any charge is payable and how I would go about booking seats for this service (i've never done it before). I know there isn't much XC love here, but we're a couple of poor students wanting a day out, £5.70 is a lot for me.
(£1.50 more for first class, is it worth it?)

We're both under 16 so it's child fares.

Go to confirm, before paying - you should see the seats allocated to you. How you make them seat you together is another thing, maybe it's busy?

Ah, none in first class but some in standard class. No tables on the outward though.

And what about paying with Visa Electron? Do ticket offices accept them?

The cheapest I can find is the 10:59 Glasgow C - Edinburgh and 19:11 Edinburgh - Glasgow at £3.00 return (£4.50 First Class)
For the extra £1.50 in First Class (travelling as above) you get a larger seat, there is no catering on this service

I am unable to find a 17:51 Edinburgh - Glasgow C, so I suspect you are refering to the 17:00 Edinburgh to Glasgow QS (to which the higher fare applies of £9.90)
As this 17:00 service is ScotRail and the fare does not apply this will be why seats cannot be found

Yes, i've noticed the 380/322 were a little quieter at peak times. The morning one especially.

Some (but not all) TOCs will accept Visa Electron at booking offices and TVMs. Southeastern, for example, does. You definitely can't use them on board trains or at most excess windows.
