It did. It must be nearly ready as over the weekend I saw the hoarding has gone and the escalator looked fully reinstalled.
There were some engineers working on it this morning.

They're not entirely unlike a clock, many can't be 'wound' very much the wrong way without damage, and have to be done slowly. Reversible ones are more complicated, need stronger parts, and need a more stringent maintenance regime. That means they're quite a bit more expensive, all added up.
Even reversible ones can in effect become uni-directional ones if they've not been reversed in a long time, as the parts will be worn one one direction, and could be dangerous if suddenly reversed, or at least be very noisy. Usually they need a service before they can be reversed in this sort of situation.

I passed it yesterday and the new Greggs looks to be on schedule to open on the 27th; there's a sign in the window confirming the opening date
A good day for Greggs fans and Leeds - Sheffield passengers!
Hopefully the Greggs will be open until late evening, as McDonalds can be really busy at night if you just want a quick, cheap coffee!

Spoons closes at midnight. Whether they still service the coffee machine into the evening I'm not sure. Spoons coffee is way better than the ground ash Greggs serve haha

Were there any opening day offers at Greggs? I was going to wander over but was enjoying my bed too much.

I also made a terrible mistake in choosing to have to make a journey involving Manchester Victoria and Leeds in the cold snap today…both stations were absolutely freezing to the extent I was shaking and chattering teeth!

I was on Leeds P17 at 0730 this morning and it wasn’t too bad. It was a lot worse at Woodlesford.Don’t worry, passed through this morning and business as usual…out of order once again!
I also made a terrible mistake in choosing to have to make a journey involving Manchester Victoria and Leeds in the cold snap today…both stations were absolutely freezing to the extent I was shaking and chattering teeth!
At least it was a beautiful morning, even the 150’s managed to look good!

Apologies if it’s old news, but this is the first time I’ve seen the new steps taking-shape in daylight. They are a definite improvement on what was there before, although I’m surprised they didn’t rotate them 90 degrees to be able to make the angle of them shallower.

West Yorkshire police closed the South Entrance this afternoon without warning and blocked the short routes around to the other entrance while embarking Manchester United fans.
Is there any legal basis for this, and do regular police have jurisdiction at railway stations? Are customers who missed their trains eligible for delay repay in this scenario?
The escalators held up well with a lot of weight on them though.

They can exercise police powers inside a railway station, they just aren't the primary police service that does so.
I think they would also be able to use police powers to temporarily block access to highways to do that, which in this case seems like a sensible measure to prevent potential disorder.#
I can't imagine delay repay would be payable as it isn't a delay to a train. It also feels to me reasonable that people should be expected to travel with enough contingency to reach a different entrance to the station.

Why on earth should that be the case. The opening hours of the southern entrance are clearly stated. One of the primary benefits of opening it was to reduce the time taken to reach the station from that side of the city. Having to set off at at same time every day as if it didn't exist would be ridiculous.
Should everyone using the main entrance give themselves sufficient time to treck round to the southern entrance, just in case?
I imagine the majority of journeys from Leeds are at a 'turn up and go' frequency where it wouldn't matter. If you're on an advance ticket or catching an infrequent service, I think it's fairly sensible to allow enough contingency for something like this (or the plethora of other things that could happen before or at a station) that may cause a delay.

The bloke complaining to the police next to me was on an hourly service. A long queue formed, I’m sure there were many that couldn’t allow for a 10-minute+ detour, including those with luggage.
Regardless, the advice from my TOC is to arrive ten minutes before departure at the station. Only the most knowledgeable, confident and able traveller with a fortunate platform allocation would have been able to get around via Soveriegn street in that time.
If the South Entrance is to be closed during regular opening hours, it should be clearly advertised that that is the case.
