How are chesterfield electrics coping with routes out to Bakewell etc as there fairly long routes for electric buses (170 etc) also Bakewell locals guess get old diesels still?
How excellent is it that the electronic bus departure board in Bakewell not only displays all the buses that depart from there but it also displays all the train departures from Chesterfield Railway Station that connect to the 170.
Well impressed! There should be alot more integrated info like this

Most local buses in Bakewell are operated by Andrew's of Tideswell. On longer distance runs Trent Barton, High Peak and TM Travel also put in appearances.
Stagecoach just run the 170 to Chesterfield plus in summer the Peak Sightseer open top bus tours.

There is also one on Central Pavement in Chesterfield, where it meets Packers Row. Handy for shoppers to quickly check when their next bus is and if they can call in somewhere else.
The main one missing for me is to have something at Chatsworth. Especially during events and at the weekend the services can be delayed, so having some indication when the next bus is due would help.
It would also be good to have two stops at Chatsworth really, one for Bakewell and one for Chesterfield and Sheffield. Last time I was there a number of people missed their bus as the stop was crowded with people wanting to go to Bakewell, and those for Sheffield didn't realise they weren't in a queue to get on until the bus pulled away.
I wonder when the story of what is actually happening with these will come out?
In Chesterfield, the 51 and 63 have route changes from the 12th, and the 48 has a minor timetable change. Nothing out there I can find to say what these are though.
And so continues the slow but sure managed decline of the Sheffield bus network. Perhaps it will end up with a someone picking up a skeleton service on the northern half only, as currently happens on Sunday.
Any idea what "Frequency reduced on service 7" means specifically? (I really wish operators weren't allowed to register such vague descriptions - it's of no benefit to anybody).
It's coordinated with the 8/8a, so I can't see how they could reduce the frequency of the 7 without ruining the even-interval service on the common section. I see no registration from First to make any corresponding amendment to the 8/8a timetable, although they do still have a while to submit one.

There are two displays in Chesterfield Town Centre that display bus info, they have even updated the old map round the back of the Portland that no one will ever look at So, all is moving in a positive way
However, my gripe with both displays in Chesterfield is that they just display the bus stop number closest to them but dont give you any info where that bus stop is. Anyone that knows Chesterfield will know a bus to the east, west and south of town will all depart from very different places. Not handy if you are new to town or trying the bus for the first time but I have to admit all of this is a massive step forward.

100%. I made my first visit to Chatsworth last year, and my first time using public transport to get around the Peak District. We joined the queue for the bus between the wooden fences, only for the bus we wanted to pull up on the roadway and pick-up/set down on the grass, but by the time we and some other people had managed to fight our way out of the queue, it was gone. Admittedly, the fact it didn't have a fully working destination display and wasn't in a recognisable company livery possibly didn't help matters, but knowing you are in a designated queue for a designated route/destination would definitely help. It seemed like a bit of a free for all, especially as this was during a period of nice weather and when the two Peak Sightseer routes were also running in addition to the normal local bus services, the former I think being what the majority wanted hence their reluctance to move to let us out, maybe thinking we were trying to push our way through the queue.

There are a number of ‘Change here for buses to Chatsworth and Bakewell’ signs on the platforms at Chesterfield station but it would be good if the next 170 bus to Chatsworth and Bakewell was shown on the train departure times inside the station similar to those inside York station showing the next Coastliner bus to Whitby.
There is an electronic PIS bus display at the bus stop outside the station, but for some reason the display has been stuck for a number of weeks displaying the next bus to Bakewell as 1326….
Of course it would be better if the 170 bus was included on rail journey planners and through rail/bus tickets were available, similar to a couple of Traws Cymru routes in Wales - or even a simple PlusBus ticket add on for say, £6, which is coincidentally 2 x £3 bus fare cap?
That's the Stagecoach Yorkshire head office in Barnsley town centre, where the management and admin staff are based including commercial and finance functions, they look after all the Yorkshire Opco depots - Barnsley, Rawmarsh, Ecclesfield, Holbrook and Stonegravels. It is of course conveniently close to Barnsley Interchange (bus/rail station) and is combined with mess room facilities for the bus drivers.

Agreed. Some drivers don't bother pulling into the stop and just sit beside it. It doesn't help that one badly positioned car can prevent bus access to the stop entirely!

It only shows departures from New Beetwell Street and the Coach Station. Anything heading for Bolsover etc isn't mentioned. I've actually had a faff around with this display board and the journey planner works well.

Other than the fact it would require a reverse, the area outside the main house entrance would be as good as any. They seem to use this for coach drop-offs, but that would only be a major issue at busy times. When the Peak Sightseer is running then I'd imagine it will be very hectic.

That's rather pointless, as it's pretty much as central to all of the stops in Chesterfield - closer to Church Way than the Coach Station even!

Are Stonegravels drivers struggling to get in to work today? I don't know what the roads to the east side of Chesterfield are like, but out here on the west side even our little cul-de-sac is easily passable, and main roads are clear, yet we've not had a single bus even attempt to come out today.
Indeed, on the service changes page on their website (nothing on Twitter as usual...) it says most services are withdrawn. Conditions on the ground don't give any indication this is necessary, thus me wondering if there is some other reason, such as not enough drivers being able to make it in?

First have now registered their changes from May. This includes a timetable change to the 8 and withdrawal of 8a, so my guess is that the Stagecoach 7 and First 8 will both run hourly instead of half hourly with the combined frequency on the core section of route being every 30 mins. Of course none of the new timetables have been published yet and it is also worth noting that the new contracts are currently being bid for SYMCA tendered services to run from April.
Are the E400EVs doing that badly in Chesterfield? There were teething issues certainly, but things seem to have settled down now. I've not seen a lot of failures or service cancellations. Still the odd one, and again compared to the Yutongs they don't come off well, but it doesn't seem to be a complete disaster.
@Teapot42 to reply in an on-topic thread: The E400EVs are getting towed back almost daily. The current thing seems to be HVAC issues leaving the buses freezing cold (they keep switching to defrost mode and blasting cold air).
The brake issues seem to have been sorted, but the traction loss of the motor when turning sharp right hasn't been sorted. (Ride a 50 towards Sheffield and feel the jolt as it leaves Eckington Bus Station.)
It's been noted on this thread by a company official that these issues are merely teething issues on first-generation vehicles. To a point I understand this; but when these vehicles are constantly failing in many aspects where competitors' vehicles haven't, it begs the question of "was it really worth ordering ADL being fully aware of the history of quite frankly crap build quality?"
Blimey, I didn't realise it was that bad! I guess I'm not out on the network enough to see this - working at a desk means you don't get out... The only issue I'd noted recently was one morning X17 that was terminated short.
I'd imagine many of these issues aren't strictly speaking down to ADL. Things like the drivetrain and HVAC will be bought in, so unless the mistakes are with how they've integrated it then it's an issue for their supplier to sort. It does seem though as if maybe not enough testing was done prior to volume introduction. I really do hope they are working hard to resolve the issues - I'm no fan of ADL either, but we need competent domestic manufacturers.
37602 has moved from barnsley to rawmarsh with 36447 moving the other way. 36991 also in use at barnsley and 37098 in use at holbrook after returning from repairs
To pick up a few points raised on here about E400EV performance. A quick check of availability tonight shows Yutongs at a very respectable 97.5% availability, the E400EV's 89.7% which is comparable to diesel vehicles. This is fairly typical availability figures.
I absolutely do not recognise the claim that they are towed in regularly, I'm at Chesterfield depot usually once a week and don't recall the last time I've seen one towed in. For context, lost mileage for vehicle breakdown was 0.1% for the past four weeks, thats one of the better performances of any depot in the UK.
There is an issue with HVAC caused by compressor failures on some buses (but not all), to mitigate ADL provide an engineer in the mornings to repair any failures and there is a stock of replacement compressors to swap over, all under warranty of course. The compressors are also used by another EV bus manufacturer who appear to have similar issues. I understand the suppliers involved have identified what the issue appears to be and will be introducing a fixin coming weeks.
All the E400EV's are due to go for remedial work back at the factory in the coming months. This isn't unusual for a new vehicle - I could bore people with tales of woe about my own car, produced by a well known European manufacturer renown for its reliability - needless to say its had warranty issues and is due in tomorrow for two days of software updates so ADL is far from imune from such issues.
Got to remember Yutong had built tens of thousands buses before they built our 41. ADL had built a few hundred before they built our 39.

That’s great to hear that the electric buses are proving extremely reliable.
The sparkly new buses are certainly turning heads in north Derbyshire and are a pleasure to travel on, although the interior heating could be a bit better!
Hopefully the new buses are starting to increase patronage?

Slightly unrelated to what you're mentioning here, but did Pelican/Yutong offer a double-deck vehicle in the UK at the time of procurement of the E400EVs?
Thanks for clarifying things from your side, it's much appreciated.

We trialled the Yutong U11D around Christmas 2023 (I think!) however for reasons I cannot recall we did not order any until last year. At the time of placing the Zebra2 orders Stagecoach chose to dual-source. Those original orders have moved around a bit since being placed between the manufacturers but with Chesterfield being towards the front of the queue for order deliveries we received what was originally ordered.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
