Perhaps I phrased it wrong; everyone in the driving grade comes to work with the expectation that trains may be delayed and ultimately overtime paid in the result of delays.Nobody does (with the exception of some TOCs and their Sunday situation).
People ultimately volunteer for it. If you don't have volunteers, trains are cancelled. Pretty simple really.
But no one should rely on and expect to be given overtime shifts; is more what I was getting at.
