Who's for it then? Its a defo from me. Bring back the good old days. IMO it would get more people back to games and bring the prices down a bit, plus its warmer standing up.

There's a big call for it up here in Scotland. Whats the general opinion on here then? :)

I agree mate! Still sit in the West enclosure at Ibrox, but it isn't the same. Easter Road used to be great too, I mind being at a match there during winter where the temp was -5C. The celebrations on the terracing warmed us up no end! Tynie was good also, as was Hampden, Brockville, Firhill, Dens Park and even Celtic Park. Great atmosphere . Fitba is sh**e now though, can't stand up, can't swear, can't get decent players to come to Scotland.......etc etc etc

For it

Would be nice to see it at Parkhead.

I preferred Celtic Park back in the day, though it is an impressive structure today.

Would be nice, they used to have them over at Accy Stanley before they reached the League: I spent many a Saturday there watching Bamber Bridge, Bradford Park Avenue and Workington; it was nice there before there was even a hint of Stanley ever making the League again.

The reason that Hillsborough was such a tragedy was due to **** poor management by stewards and police not keeping track of the numbers in the Liverpool end. Also didn't help with Liverpool being given the smaller end of the ground.

Just take a look at Germany, fans stand on a regular basis with no trouble, it's well managed and there are small individual pens where numbers are strictly controlled. I don't see why it couldn't be done.

I agree. The Germans have paved the way in football stadia.

Am I allowed to say that lower leagues cope fine with terraces?
Its smaller stadiums for fewer people, but say, Moss Rose's (Macclesfield) can cope fine with the terraces, even when bigger teams pay a call (i.e. in cups) without any trouble (I say that from the point of view of a former gate operator there). I say that it would work because higher leagues have many more times the amount of fans, but the grounds are many times bigger to cope with it

I'd be for their return so long as there were measures in place to stop crowd surges, for example barriers after every 10 or so 'rows ' of people, a bit like gig venues, and also a decent steward-fan ratio :)

Of all the gigs I have ever been too, I have never seen barriers anywhere except at the front, crowd surges are common place. Then again this may have something to do with the kind of bands that I go and see.

A'm not sure were i stand on this as i'm against the return of terracing yet, i go to Rugby League games where there is Terracing at most grounds, & the new RL stadiums have terracing in them. Theres a big RL cup Semi Final tomorrow[involving 2 of the biggest teams in RL] at Warrington's ground were theres terracing on 2 sides of the ground, were they'll be no problems.

Ah! The good old days. Jam packed terraces where the only way to have a pee was to use a can and hurl it towards the front.

Was that intentional :D

As someone who has visited many German stadiums I can only agree that terracing should return. The atmosphere at German games is fantastic and beats anything in this country hands down.
Safe standing is more than possible if the will is there. Unfortunately in this country I don't think it is. Probably due to finance more than anything else.
And mention of Hillsborough is IMO wrong as it wasn't the terracing responsible there, just how it was managed. Modern terracing would be completely different to that era anyway.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
This coming season will see a large reduction in the ticket capacity offered by Liverpool to Manchester United supporters at the game at Anfield, because of persistant standing in seating areas and the associated gangway blocking of the Manchester United supporters over recent seasons.
