Hi mate, I have mine next week, I've done my MMI already, any tips you could pass on or type of question/answers to research, anything would be appreciated?

Just had my mmi... very laid back 'get to know you' kind of interview.
The is why they should bin the MMI in my opinion. Too much variation in the process whereby some people have a hostile interrogation and others have a cozy fireside chat. It discredits the whole recruitment process. Of course this isn't specifically a scotrail thing, I have read horror stories from other companies on this forum too. The MMI really is a potential minefield for good candidates looking for a job on the rail.

It’s very much a mini MMI, 5 competency questions and 2 situational questions.
Yeah I found my MMI quite in the middle, it wasn’t laid back, but it certainly wasn’t interrogation style. The MMI and DMI were the only 2 stages I was worried about, the assessments it’s completely up to you, where as the MMI and DMI can all depend on the personality/mood of the person interviewing you

I had my MMI today,it was anything but a cosy chat,wouldn't quite call it an interrogation but it was pretty intense,lasted 90 minutes and I got questioned quite a bit,I heard others saying they had a cosy informal chat with other interviewers, dont know if i've passed or not but from my point of view it certainly wasnt an easy interview

Good chance alot of folk won't get started until mid/late 2026 into 2027.
The courses seem to be full for a good while in advance, unless someone pulls out.
They just don't have enough trainers.
Plus, the government are pushing the. To recruit way too many drivers on a short space of time, to get rid of Sunday as a over time and include it within the working week.
Pretty rubbish for folk waiting, as I know that feeling, having waited over 18 months to get started.
But, it seems like it is going to clog up the system from what I can read and have heard.

ScotRail don't currently allow type 1 diabetics to be drivers.
How do you think the rosters will pan out or look like if Sundays are included? Do you feel it will be better or worse?
Tbh, I can't really comment on it, as a trainee, I don't know much difference.
I think it would just be the same as any other day, minus the overtime payment. But, they would need to massively increase the annual salary to compensate for the loss of OT. So it could be a winner, as that is then pensionable, whereas OT is not pensionable. Also, I've heard the union will be looking for anything from 10% increase of the annual salary or more. Hopefully that part is true.
Hence why the government is pushing for lots of extra drivers, as you don't work more than 4 days in a row currently, unless you have volunteered for rest day working.

Anyone know when the next intake of trainee drivers is likely to be?
From what I’ve been told by the recruitment team at different points, it’s anywhere from April next year all the way through to sometime in 2027.
I’d guess that the bigger depots would be sooner and the smaller ones would mean a longer wait but who knows.

My husband had his DMI on the 27th November and still not heard back yet. He’s already sat and passed his MMI, it’s a waiting game for sure. Do scotrail get in touch if unsuccessful? Every assessment previous he’s been told 7 days and always heard before then.

Yeah they get back to either way, I didn't receive a text this time. Usually I get a text message to tell me to check my e-mails as I've had correspondence from them.

I've heard that my depot (north of the central belt) is only due a small handful - single figures - of trainees next year. Can't speak for anywhere else though.
For me texts were hit an miss. I got a couple but most of the emails arrived without a text being received.

Has anyone done these online assessments recently? Do they form part of the actual driver assessments and recruitment process or is this just an additional thing Scotrail do to sift?
- Work-related behaviour (20-25 minutes) – A questionnaire that measures your typical workplace behaviour. It helps us to understand if your workstyle preferences are a good fit for the role.
- Ability to concentrate (5 minutes) - An assessment that measures your ability to concentrate and react to certain signals on screen. It helps us to understand how well you can maintain focus over time.
- Monitoring ability (5 minutes) - An assessment that measures your ability to react quickly to objects on screen. It helps us to understand how well you can track information.
- Reaction speed (6 minutes) - An assessment that measures your ability to react quickly to objects on screen. It helps us to understand how fast you can react to stimuli.
- Logical Reasoning (9 minutes) – An assessment that measures your ability to follow patterns or rules in logical steps.
Do you mean for applications to go public. Or that you are in the process and passed everything and awaiting a start date?

Any update on this?? Feels abit cheeky filtering people out more with a pre test. Iv already passed the first stage, but unsuccessful at interview. Thanks
I haven’t looked at it yet but have had a follow up email asking for it to completed within 3 days and not the previously mentioned 7 days.
For transparency, I’m an internal candidate and have sat the driver assessments (passed) and never progressed past interview stage. I haven’t done these assessments before.
