I don’t really see why it’s a big fuss. LNER operate their services with two train classes, one of them being the Azumas which operate the Bradford Forster Square, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Harrogate, Lincoln and Hull services. The 225 locos operate only the York and Leeds routes as of 12/12/25.
Most people find it helpful to know what service of LNER trains they’ll be getting on, especially if your Leeds train is either the 225 or Azuma. Also helps to differentiate the two trains and create an identity for the different routes if you’re a frequent traveller.
Southwestern use Arterio on their CIS boards like LNER do, so I don’t understand why Azumas are getting the bad end of the stick. I don’t mind SWR promoting their Arterio services either because they have 3 trains they use to operate their services and it’s nice knowing which service I’m getting on is on an Arterio or not, as I don’t travel from Waterloo that often.
You tend to block out “(…) the LNER Azuma service to (…)” on the announcement after some time so I genuinely forget they differentiate their fleet.
