Hello Everyone
On Thursday, my ticket was checked by a ticket inspector for a 7am train from Cambridge to London Kings Cross. I sat in First Class even though I did not hold a first class ticket, and I had added a 16-17 railcard onto my ticket which I do not possess (I am 19.) This train is a very busy train and I sat there as I saw an open seat, still no excuse of course. I am a University student so I stupidly thought of adding the railcard to make it cheaper. It was very stupid and reckless of me to do I understand. Of course I was not fined but was given a receipt that stated I would be contacted by GTR and be given a letter of prosecution. I am not sure as to what is going to happen and I really do not want to handle this within court and with a criminal record. From what I have read on here, if an out of court settlement is agreed, I would pay the Anytime Fare Rate x2 singles as my journey was a return, and I am assuming at the 1st class rate. Since the incident I have bought the appropriate railcard for me and have been using since and sitting in the correct section.
Within my Trainline history, I have used a railcard that I did not possess x4 so I understand they may charge me for those too. However, even if I didn’t sit in 1st class for this instance would they charge 1st class rate? I have a history of using child tickets so I understand that if a court settlement is made, this will also be charged. This incident has scared me to my core which was needed as I now have been behaving properly regarding train ticket rules.
Any help with information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
