Polar Express which is running at several railways around the country.
I have only actually seen it at the Spa Valley Railway but the format is the same elsewhere. See films on "youtube".

I have been on Wensleydale railways polar express (2020) that was very good and Kwvr elf explore (2023) but the sound was a bit faulty. Did KWVR in 2015, quite good.
I have no experience other than the KWVR's 3 festive offers and it would be invidious to state which I prefer 
However, the night-time start out of Keighley on the Carol Train in 1990 or 1991 certainly lives in the memory for atmosphere.

The Christmas Carol sounds right for you
I agree it's not for me, but I don't have children yet.
If I had children (and my friends do) I'm sure they would love it and is a way to get them into heritage railways.
Big money earner too which helps to pay for the rest of the year so can't grumble

We did the KWVR Elf Express last year and it was excellent, the kids absolutely loved it. Although it was busy Santa really made a fuss with them and they got a great present. We’re giving the Lakeside and Haverthwaite a go this year just as it’s nearer home if the weather’s bad, but this very looks good too, especially having a whole compartment per family.
We did the Polar Express a couple of years ago (won’t say where) and found it a bit disappointing to be honest. It was incredibly busy and although a very slick operation it seemed a bit impersonal and commercialised compared to some of the other traditional Santa Specials we’ve done. I’d say the theme is more suited to slightly older children rather than little ones, as it’s all based around the doubt whether the big man is real or not. Plus all they get as a present is a small bell, which I get fits in with the story but most kids prefer a toy I think!
