Huddersfield?, Swindon?

WAO
Huddersfield, twice. The first time (in the 1980s, I think) created a new P2 for services to/from Penistone, the second time was earlier this year to create a longer P1 (was P2) for services to/from… Penistone.

Whitechapel centre platforms 2&3 disappeared upon rebuilding and former westbound platform 4 was extended over the westbound road to meet the existing siding.

Putney Bridge pfm.2, was extended to cover the former westbound road.

Gravesend. Platform face for what is now the up line built on the trackbed of the former up through, the old down through is now the up line. Former up loop is now the bay road.

Reading -- in the rebuild a few years ago, the southernmost through platform (formerly 4, now 7) was widened over where the track used to be. I'm fairly certain there was a phase in the rebuilding when the old platform 9 (the northernmost through platform) was widened in a similar way with a temporary structure.

I think Ely may be another example where a widened platform was judged to be more useful than a through road; is Durham another?

Shotton Low Level was closed when that section of the North Wales coast line had four tracks and reopened after the slow lines had been removed, so the new platforms were built out over the space left to reach the remaining tracks.

When Sunderland was converted for the Metro, they built over the northbound track bed and moved the northbound track across to the vacant old trackbed beyond it, against the disused island platform, last used for parcels. This is why the northbound track is now in a trench with a modern platform face in use on one side and a much older platform face on which the light wall is built. It's the edge of the still extant second island.

Kilmaurs, platform built over the northbound trackbed.

Glasgow Queen Street Low Level used to have 4 platforms. The outer two tracks were removed and the platforms extended over where they used to be.

I took a photo from the footbridge, the arrow points to the original platform edge, alongside the short temporary platform sitting over the original P4 trackbed. The new build is almost complete in the foreground, and gives a good idea of the extra width at that point. However the significant widening is all at the east end and middle, and tapers away to almost nothing at the west end.

On the Underground, 4 stations with inadequate island platforms on the Northern Line (Euston Bank branch, Angel, Bank and London Bridge) have been very expensively rebuilt with a new running tunnel and platform in one direction, and the other platform/concourse extended over the replaced track.
Euston (bank branch) is interesting as a section of the former northbound line still existed (exists?) at the Kings Cross end forming a centre running line northbound into the southbound platform. It took me a while to find out how my train did that during planned engineering work.

Kings Cross Circle/Met central concourse was previously the running tunnel. I believe the ‘new’ outer rail tunnel used an abandoned extension of the widened lines towards Euston?

At Cambridge, did the upside island use some space previously occupied by track?

Eastleigh platform 1 which used to be used for Romsey and Salisbury trains.
But the Eastleigh P1 track was not covered over by a built out platform, as per the original question, it was replaced by the car park and the new main entrance doors. When the old P1 track was removed the new P1 side of the island became narrower, you can see just a few yards of the old P1 at the very south end.

Yes. I'm old enough to remember when the goods roads were roughly where the platform 7 and 8 island is now.

There were big changes in the early 1980s when power signalling was installed. This included a small bit of platform being built over what used to be tracks when the south end of platform 1 was straightened. The carriage sidings, which were between the station and the goods roads, were replaced by reception roads, though, after electrification, these were mainly used for stabling EMUs. It all changed again when platform 7 and 8 were built, and is expected to change again for East West Rail.

A similar situation applies at Peterborough. The platform 4 and 5 island was built over the old Midland Railway tracks from Peterborough East, the platform 6 and 7 island is roughly where Crescent Yard used to be.

At Euston and Angel one platform is noticeably wider, because it originally had an island platform with tracks both sides, as still survives at two stations in Clapham. At London Bridge and more recently at Bank one of the platform tunnels was turned into a circulation area with a new platform tunnel on the other side.

What's also interesting is that the original track was left in situ with the new platform built on top of it. You can just about see the old track in that small gap in the photo.

Yes, that was the case in a few of the Reading changes. I suspect it both saved time during a relatively short closure and meant the sleepers could be used as a reliable foundation for the temporary scaffolding.

Platform 6 at Leeds during the 2001 remodelling. I've been sat on a 308 where the current platform is.

Are you sure? I thought P6 was the old P3. Current P3 (and P2?) used to be track, I think; the former Wellington carriage sidings? Platforms 0 & 1 are roughly where the old Wellington platforms 5 & 6 were, P4 is roughly where old P1 was (which didn't exist until 1967, so might have been sidings as well.

Would present day Fort William station possibly count as having its platforms/concourse built over the top of what were once running lines, when the town's station was re-sited in June 1975?

At stockport most of the bay plaforms have been removed, and the space has been used to extend the platforms to support 11 coach pendolinos and possiblly also to make space for platform 0 and it's associated line.

You can still see evidence of the former bays in the form of the shape of the station roof and the large flower bed between platforms 3 and 4.
