The ACMU (AC Multiple Unit) Society and the Fife Heritage Railway are delighted to announce a new partnership that will see the iconic Class 313 electric multiple unit, 313 121, joining the growing network of preserved AC EMUs that the ACMU promotes and supports.

The vehicle will remain owned and based at the Fife Heritage railway in Scotland, with the ACMU providing extra support and promotion as we progress on our society’s goal to bring unity into the EMU preservation scene.

So who and what is the ACMU Society?

ACMU stands for Alternating Current Multiple Unit, and is formed from a merger of the Clacton Express Preservation Group and Class 315 Preservation Society, with the common aim to support overhead electric units in preservation.

The new ACMU society will inherit and continue all current projects and vehicles from the respective predecessors, meaning we will own the Sole surviving Class 315 No. 315856, and continue to support the restoration of EARM Electric Exhibits Class 309 309624 and 317345. This merger will include all other ongoing projects such as Project Networker, the historical archive plus more.

313121 never worked on the south coast. It went from London Overground to Network Rail once its North London Line use ended.

I believe the Rail Advent article has been posted elsewhere, but thought it best to formally update this thread. The repaint of DMSO 64571 has now been revealed, resplendent in privatisation "First Great Eastern" livery. Last seen on an item of rolling stock circa 2007, this livery was applied by hand in secret over 10 days, part of Project Yellow Submarine, an ongoing programme of targeted weatherproofing work. It's now the only example of this livery in preservation.

The news has now gone live, we have now brought the last surviving vehicles of 311103 into our "Meet The Fleet" Initiative.
That now brings the number of units under the ACMU's support umbrella to 5 (309624,311103,313121,315856,317345).
Over the next few months we will be supporting Sumerlee Museum on the cosmetic restoration of the vehicle, on the leadup to it's 60th anniversary in May.
Here the unit is seen today, getting more cosmetic attention. The unit is currently in undercoat with topcoat due to be applied soon.

Great to see some attention being given to the 311. I went to see it a few weeks ago, and looked to be in a rather sorry state, with tarpaulin over it. It looks much better without it!

The latest news has just gone live, we have reached an agreement to takeover and lead the restoration of the last surviving vehicles of 307123 and 312792 and bring both into our "Meet The Fleet" Initiative.

That now brings the number of units under the ACMU's support umbrella to 7 (307123,309624,311103,312792,313121,315856,317345).
Plans are for an interim cosmetic on the 307 to mark it's 70th anniversary, and then a full bodywork restoration of the 312 and restoring it to push-pull operations.

I remember once seeing a 312 vehicle on a trailer in the middle of a roundabout near Lakeside Shopping Centre.
