What exactly is a Super Off-Peak Day Return and how do I even buy it?

Apparently different TOCs have different rules about them, say I wanted to travel from Leeds to Manchester and back via Sheffield with Northern, would it be best to look for multiple advance singles/split fares to HOHO rather than buy a South Pennine Day Ranger which is also valid on TP services and might be more expensive? And what websites/apps would I use to buy these tickets?

@Anetos. The 'South Pennines Day Ranger' is £31.20 (£20.75 with railcard discount) and is likely to offer much more flexibility for the "hop on, hop off" circular journey itinerary you mention, than a series of advance tickets would, which obviously limit you to booked trains only. Not sure that 'Super Off Peak Day Returns' are generally widely available in the North of England, if at all.
