Take it you mean replenishment on board the flight as ROI is dearer for them than the UK and Duty Free shop at DUB is hardly cheap either.

About 50€ a sleeve on a Ryanair flight. Do you order them in advance or take a chance they are well stocked up?

To be fair all through the process they made it pretty clear this would happen if I didn't cough for a seat.

Has anyone ever avoided this fate without paying and if so what are the tricks pertaining to avoiding that outcome ?

My "trick" for a free higher quality seat is to delay doing the check in until a few minutes before free check-in closes. I've found this to have a remarkable success rate at scoring a emergency exit row seat(I'm extremely tall so this is important to me) without payment, presumably because they avoid "randomly" assigning these seats in order to have the chance to sell them as an upgrade until the flight is almost full and there is no other choice.

I've been allocated a middle seat before and the aisle or window has remained unallocated, so you may be lucky and be able to slide over once boarding is complete.

You must be psychic, this is exactly what happened today on both Flights - 19A was empty so I moved across to the window.

Ryanair are moving to 100% Digital Boarding Passes (DBP) from 12 Nov 2025. This means from Wed 12 Nov, all passengers will receive a DBP to their Ryanair App when they check-in online as paper boarding passes will no longer be issued. Online check-in can be completed on Ryanair.com or on the Ryanair App.

Why this change?

• DBP lowers airport costs and fares for all Ryanair passengers.

• Provides a better service (including flight info) for customers on day of travel.

• Improves customer service and re-booking during flight disruptions.

• Better for our environment (gets rid of 300 tonnes of paper annually).

How does it work?

• Check-in online on Ryanair.com or Ryanair App prior to arriving at airport.

• After check-in your DBP will appear automatically in your Ryanair App.

• Present your DBP at airport security & at the boarding gate for your flight.

• Hassle free travel – quicker, easier, less stress, zero paper.

Airport Check-In

All Ryanair passengers will still receive email reminders to check-in online 48 and 24hrs predeparture. If any passenger arrives at airport but hasn’t checked-in online (having ignored these reminders), they will still be required to pay the airport check-in fee.

If you loose your phone or don't have one, a reprint at the desk will be done free of charge, as long as you have checked-in online. So it will make away from the boarding pass re-print fee.

If flying from Morocco, passengers will still need to get the pass printed at the check-in desk

Doesn't seem ill be having these problems as I'm unable to put app on my phone as it seems it is incompatible with it and a quick look shows I'm far from alone. Use another airline or check in with them and head to the info desk and get a paper boarding pass which of course I'm capable of doing myself anyway.. It's only Ryanair I'm having this problem with as easyjet app went on my phone straight away.

According to planespotters.net, Ryanair’s subsidiary Ryanair UK are finally due to get their first 737-8200 at some point soon, registered as G-RYMA.

Imho it’s much needed as most of RUK’s aircraft are between 15-20 years old, they are also the only subsidiary to not have a MAX.

Yesterday, I booked a Ryanair flight for the end of November and just had an email advising paper boarding passes will no longer be accepted after 12th November 2025.

Good luck with that! Last time I checked-in for a Ryanair flight at Liverpool they had a very customer unfriendly rep in the check-in area demanding everyone use the automatic check-in booths (whilst several actual check-in operatives were sat looking bored to death at three otherwise empty desks). I went to a desk.

I bought a flight with large carry-on case; the same size as Easyjet allow "for free"! With Easyjet it easily fits under the seat, so nor rush whatsoever to get on early to get that locker space. With Ryanair, it fits under seats A,B and E,F; but not C or D - the spacing if the seat supports is smaller. So as I buy aisle (to get to the loo without disturbing anyone!) I'm still having to use priority queue to get that overhead space. Although my technique is to join the back of the priority queue - thus less time standing around after ticket check - but in front of the masses so I'm still guaranteed luggage space!
Note - yesterday IBZ _MAN we landed 20 mins early!! Well done FR!

People who have phones are likely going to use them for plenty of other things outside airline boarding cards, so its not pie in the sky.

If this happens before security you can go to in person check in, sure!

If this scenario happens do you have to come out and re clear security or can they print paper at the gate if need be?

Ryanairs planning department doesn't appear to have mulled this one over, and if they have, they havent provided what solutions they have for it.

Hopefully most people carry charge cables and power banks and all the gear, but some might not

They have, it's in the FAQ at #155

Hardly any airlines have "banned power banks", in most cases it's just their use on board that has been banned.

It's usually only the use/charging of a power bank that is prohibited, carrying one is usually, as long as you don't go over the ICAO-recommended capacity (27k mAh/100Wh), fine

On checking I see that's correct, probably not very well reported.

Given their short flights and how long a phone usually lasts if placed in flight mode, I don't think it would at all. Charge fully in the terminal then your phone will easily last the full flight for listening to music or watching films. And if it doesn't you probably need a new phone, or at least the battery to be replaced.

If your phone won't last 5 hours in flight mode doing stuff like listening to music having started fully charged, I refer you to my other comment about it being time for a new one. It's using data/wifi/GPS that really kills the battery.

Thursday is the day of reckoning then and i look forward to see how FR deal with people who don't have or can't download the app. If everything goes the way this airline plan then it should go smoothly as everyone should have checked in for flights on arrival at the airport but this isn't the most customer friendly company on the planet so who knows? I really hope we aren't reading stories of people who in the worst case scenario are stranded abroad.. As for me? I'm now doing everything possible to avoid Ryanair altogether even if it means using airports further afield to get me where i need to be.

People who check-in online before travel can then have a boarding pass printed at the airport for free.

The important thing is to have checked in online before arrival at the airport (or before presenting yourself at the check-in desk, anyway) otherwise you will have to pay the airport check-in fee.

If the boarding pass can be stored in Apple wallet they can be shared easily - Airdop, message, email, Whatsapp. I'm not an Android user so don't know if it has similar.

Sharing from apple wallet applies to similar passes, theatre tickets, rail tickets etc.

I'm an android user and the other has an i phone. Email and WhatsApp sound doable but would that not be similar to a screenshot which I'm not even sure will be readable at the gates but if it has got you airside there should be no problem and if it hasn't then a trek to the help desk would be needed.

The person with the app can just scan both people through the security gates. It's what I normally do with the EasyJet and the Loganair apps when I'm travelling with my kids.

It won't be available and those paper boarding passes won't be accepted for travel.

If you don't use the app you will need to get a paper pass printed at the airport. If you have checked in online this will be issued free of charge. If you haven't checked in online then you'll be charged the airport check in fee.

Ryanair have said they will not strictly enforce it, but will advise people for a couple of months, including through the Christmas and New Year period. But expect them to be super tough from early January.

It might be they can't turn off print at home option until the start date, it is probably too complicated to have a transition which checks both outward and return flight date and determines if should be allowed to print, even print outward, but not return as trip straddles the date.

From memory there are some airports where physical boarding passes remain compulsory. This might be factor in print at home still being available at the moment.
