I think 27211-27217 are (or were) earmarked for going to Merseyside

Perth still have Euro 4 E300s with seatbelts so some of the StA MMCs may end up there
I did wonder about both of those possibilities. Would make sense. It looks as if Aberhill has just two active Scania E300’s now anyway and the E300’s were transferred in not that long ago.

If the ADL ones were to stay at Aberhill, then you’d be looking at adding 27134 (St Andrews) and 27140 (Dunfermline) to Aberhill to replace 28661/2. I suspect 27140 is stuck until damaged 10483 returns and thus 10677 can move to Fife to replace it. That or 76143 anyway.

Then as you say 27211-7 to Merseyside with possibly 27131 to Devon to come.

St Andrews should be able to lose the 3 14 plate E300’s (27122-4) and 27134 from the upcoming changes anyway. Then 76127-142 would simply replace the E200mmc’s and 28643.

Stagecoach East and West Scotland are merging to create "South Scotland" which will start from the 1st November. Its unclear if both will get merged onto one operating licence.

A number of Stagecoach employees will be able to confirm this news, makes me wonder if other parts of the Stagecoach empire are getting merged?
Very odd that you will be able to get on a 'South Scotland' service in Aberdeen... and that the main operator as far north as Brechin will be Stagecoach South Scotland

Isn't the interior spec different between the Citylink/Oxford Panorama and the Stagecoach Panorama? I'm not sure they'd want to send fairly new Citylink-spec vehicles to Stagecoach Fife as all the nice delicate interior fittings would just get broken.
Does Falcon need newer coaches? Other than that I'm not sure. If West Scotland doesn't have as many passengers who are inclined to break things, maybe the Oxford Panos to there and then the Stagecoach spec Panos from West Scotland to Fife?
Would Panoramas work on the X7 Dundee to Aberdeen?
No,low bridge at Inverkeilor The X7 really needs something like the Volvo/Plaxton Panther LE on it. Are the new electric Volvo's suitable?

Panoramas fit fine under the Inverkeilor Bridge, just the bottleneck of Barclay Street in Stonehaven that's the issue, but not one of scale given 15m coaches have ran the route previously

According to period 6 fleet card 27217 has gone to Merseyside

I don't think they would have enough capacity, they also don't have a toilet. I know I've said in the past that most of the East Scotland coach services probably don't need toilets on board but I think the X7 is one which does (and the X59 as a lot of people will be using it end to end, likewise X24/27. X55 is short enough, X56/58/60/61 most people will be making shorter journeys).

I would still think the X7 would be more than ideal for the LE’s. There’s not a lot that go from end to end on it. Some, but not a lot. They’re also more than happy to put an E300 on it frequently.

The only one that really needs toilets is probably the X24. It’s almost 3 hours long and there are a good few going end to end. Coupled with how busy it is, that’s probably why it and the X27 got the 9700’s.

They had one on loan at Arbroath for a few weeks, drivers said some were being transferred from Fife, but obviously never happened.I believe they have 20 of them you would think they could spare 6 for the X7.

There is 20 but that is across Perth and Fife, once the service changes take place at the end of November it might be possible then. Right now its 16 at Fife and 4 at Perth, but the Perth ones seem to end up on other routes.

From 24th November
8 for X55
2 for X51
2 for X57
4 for X56

It might be possible to send 4 up for the X7? However It's unclear how or what Dunfermline is going to use on the peak time X27, one things for sure there will be alot of dead running unless they put back in some extra peak runs to and from Edinburgh.

I think off peak the X55 is 9 rather than 8. If the X56 were switched to interdecks, then you’d have enough left for the X7, which is 7 rather than 6. Let’s face it the X57 probably won’t last anyway, but for arguments sake there’s probably enough. Choosing the X7 over the X56 is a somewhat controversial one, but overall one I’d agree with if you had to pick. That’d be:

13 at Dunfermline for X51, X55 and X57 (2 for X51, 9 for X55 and 2 for X57)
7 at Arbroath for X7 (6 out, 1 spare)

The Dunfermline spares could simply be the case of downgrading the X57 to regular buses. This is something that I think will be fairly common practice to be honest. The alternative is have the X51 and X57 with normal buses and keep the X56 with LE’s. This would be:

9 at Dunfermline for X55 (spares being regular deckers)
7 at Arbroath for X7 (spares being interdecks)
4 at Perth for X56 (spares being interdecks)

For me the second option is probably the better one to be honest. It’s not uncommon for the X51 to be worked by Scania E400’s etc and the X57 as I say I doubt will last.

Come November the X55 will be every 20mins and should only need 7 buses plus one spare. The reason why deckers keep on appear on X51 is overcrowding at times, It really could do with some extra journeys. (It should be noted however one of the B8 does ends up doing a school run instead of a interdecks sometimes),

X57 will last as it will pick up the slack from both park n ride sites.

True, I’d forgotten that one. Then:

8 for Dunfermline for X55 (7 out, 1 spare)
8 for Arbroath for X7 (7 out, 1 spare)
4 for Perth for X56 (4 out, spare interdecks)

X57 eventually gone and X51 with standard deckers. Who knows the X51 may be able to hold a higher frequency in time. I still think the timings on it are incredibly ambitious.
X57 will last as it will pick up the slack from both park n ride sites.
Will it though? I sort of feel as if the X59 will likely end up with bigger coaches in time and in turn that may cancel that out. Ie the panoramas. Won’t happen right now, but could in 2026. At that point the X57 could probably be removed.

Always amuses me when I read corporate language like this: “strengthens service delivery and collaboration across communities…... and forming a phenomenal new united operating company. We will blend together all the best from both East and West, share ideas, and grow together as a united team.”

Call me cynical, but it’s just cost cutting.

Stagecoach has unified its East Scotland and West Scotland operating companies into a single undertaking, Stagecoach South Scotland. It will be led by Fiona Doherty as Managing Director, who previously held the same position with Stagecoach West Scotland.

Change to the structure of Stagecoach operations in the more southern parts of Scotland “strengthens service delivery and collaboration across communities,” the group says. The alignment will focus on delivery of better services and value for customers and the areas it serves, the group adds.

Brought together are the former West Scotland operations across Ayrshire and Lanarkshire and including Glasgow, and East Scotland undertakings in Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross, and Tayside.

“The move reflects Stagecoach’s ongoing commitment to modernising its business and enabling a more connected and resilient bus network across Scotland,” the group continues.

Stagecoach South Scotland aligns with operations elsewhere in the country, where the established Stagecoach North Scotland undertaking delivers services in Aberdeenshire, the Highlands, and Orkney. It will result in “consistent regional identity and clarity for passengers, partners and stakeholders,” Stagecoach says.

Adds Ms Doherty: “This is the start of an exciting chapter for Stagecoach in Scotland – bringing together two really strong operating companies and forming a phenomenal new united operating company. We will blend together all the best from both East and West, share ideas, and grow together as a united team.”

The newly formed operating company runs in the region of 700 vehicles, of which around 170 are battery-electric buses. Approximately 140 coaches are also present in the combined fleet.

Without wishing to be speculative. I wonder why a decision was made not to transfer some of East Scotland to North Scotland, eg Perth, Blairgowrie, Arbroath etc. Then simply having Fife move to South Scotland? The balance does seem somewhat off.

In the article they're comparing the new Stagecoach South Scotland to the current Stagecoach North Scotland and saying they are similar - I'm not sure how they are similar? My instinct would be that South Scotland covers a larger area and has an other of magnitude more vehicles than North Scotland.

I also found it interesting that the director of the new South Scotland is from the equivalent role in West Scotland; I'm just wondering, were there things which West Scotland did differently which might now be changed and implemented in East Scotland?

One of the big difference between West and East Scotland is, East still prints timetables. It's still unclear how this new step up is going to work, if it just high level managers post that have been merged I doubt most people will care overall.

The similarity will be that North Scotland was formed by merging Bluebird and Highlands together. South Scotland being formed by merging West and East Scotland together. Obviously East Scotland serves a much more densely populated area, but in turn it’s operating area is huge.

It's similar south of the border, e.g. Merseyside and Manchester operations being merged, with some "odd" boundaries like Hull being entirely in the East Midlands whilst Chesterfield depot is part of Yorkshire

Looking at Stagecoach, the "West" has recently lost a lot of area with the move out of most of Dumfries/ Galloway, and the details of Glasgow franchising currently unknown (will it mean 'just' losing the X19 and Cumberland operations?)

With Stagecoach currently operating services linking Thurso down to at least Wrexham (if you're prepared to travel via Aberdeen/ Dundee/ Ferrytoll/ Glasgow/ Dumfries/ Lake District/ Preston/ Liverpool/ Chester etc), there has to be a split somewhere - and many years after "East Scotland" started, there's still very little crossover between the old Strathtay and Fife operations - this change just looks like a paper exercise

I think you meant Cumbernauld but I would say that the recent retrenchment from the South of Scotland will have been a major factor behind the decision to merge both business units but I would expect the impact to the customer to be minimal.

Stathtay of course being carved out from parts of the former Alexanders (Northern) and Alexanders (Midland) operations. Perhaps they should go full circle - merge North and South into Stagecoach Alexanders!

I guess the decision to print timetables is an area decision? Cumbria still prints them. Not many printed timetables in Scotland overall now.

Its very hit or miss depending who prints them now. First no longer prints them and Lothian no longer prints the City routes. However Border buses have at long last printed more than X95 and X62 timetables, McGill do print them but sometimes you have to haunt for the blasted things.

So we finally got the missing piece of information about these service changes, Fife council will revise its services with Moffat and Willimson to provide cover the withdrawn Stagecoach routes.

Revised No63: Glenrothes - Cupar:

No63 section from Cupar to St Andrews is now AXED Note the full route is covered by other services

New No35,( the bus comes from old No63 Cupar to St Andrews section)

Tayport to St Andrews Will be covered by the No77 with minor changes

I believe the first Stagecoach 2nd gen ADL Enviro400EV to be put into the steel blue “we’ve got you” is Arbroath’s 80214.

I have seen a few that are due for delivery that are in steel blue but this is the first to go in to steel blue to carry Local livery first.
